Mylapore Tank - Featured Reviews (750)
This tank faces Sri Kapaleeshwarar temple. From backside of the temple you could view this tank. On normal monsoon day the tank over flows with water, while in Suer it is not dry though enough water is not visible.
Around this tank lot of heritage walks are conducted. There is a mandapam inside the tank where Teppam fest is held every year. If you are lucky you get to see ducks else lot of crows prevail.
The street from where the tank starts is full of unique trees. There is a Lord Ganesh temple while all through evenings, fried snacks are sold. Sunset is beautiful on this tank. A place not to miss in Mylapore.
Highlight of Mylapore...this tank is a landmark and a significant piece of history and culture Mylapore. It is beautifully decorated during important festivals. If you are visiting Chennai then do not miss Kapaleeshwarar Temple (a Shiva temple) and its famous tank.
Very big and beautiful pond in the city... In front of the mylapore Sri Kabalaeswarar udanamar Sri Karpagakambal temple... Around the pond wall full of encroachment... But POND is fully covered with wall and maintained well.. It's surprising that still it is there in the city..
Best place for all shopping (fancy to artefacts to provisions to dailies). Cant use the lake yet good to watch. Float festivals are celebrated here.
Very serene place and it has that spiritual vibe all around. Very clean surroundings. When I visited, I could not enter the lake premises as all the gates were locked( I was there around 5 PM) . I walked around the roads adjoining the lake and spent easily almost 2 hours here.. Local market, Coffee shops, Ratna Cafe, Shiva Temple, Souvenir shopping and lots more to experience. The area also has a cooler surroundings due to gree cover and lake. Worth the visit.
It's the place where people come to do ritual yearly for their family ancestors.
