This is a historical monument. During colonial era, British government built this jail for most dengerous convicted. The walls and cells of this jails are filled with stories you can feel.
Light and sound show at evening is a must. Daily two shows, starts from 17:50 and 18:50. It depicts the tragic history of cellular Jail and Brits changed a tropical paradise into a symbol of cruelty and named it 'Kala Pani'.
Although it's a very tragic experience to see the history of the freedom fighters who have gone through such inhuman suffering however I felt the importance of freedom which we have today and taking it for granted. My suggestion is if you really wanted to understand the meaning of freedom and what it cost, go and visit cellular cells in Andoman. It'll shake your soul.
Historical Place to be visited and have to see the Light Show which is casted in the evening, that give a better idea how the people struggled for the freedom that we are enjoying now.
The Colonial jail built at Port Blair stands as a witness for and grim reminder of the most inhuman and most cruelest of the punishments inflicted upon the freedom fighters (which included the likes of legendary Veer Savarkar) by the British rulers.
This is a must visit place for all the patriotic people.
The light and sound show at the cellur jail is another attraction that reminds you of the hardships gone through by the freedom fighters and the inhuman/beastly face of British rulers..
The Must visit place in Andaman. Shocked after seeing the architecture of that building. After visiting I came to know a lot about history and struggles faced by freedom fighters.
Lighting shows are also there. There are 2 slots where we can book tickets online and watch the show. Everything was explained in Hindi so whoever doesn't know Hindi it's a little bit hard but we can read the content which is provided in English under each picture. It will take 2 to 3 hrs to complete the jail.
Its a well preserved monument that evokes mixed feelings of anguish and pride. The freedom fighters were starved, tortured and kept in solitary confinement to break their spirits. The freedom fighters gladly embraced the gallows than seek mercy. Pride!
Kala Pani Jail, notorious for its role in India's struggle for independence, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. The desolation of its cells echoes the stories of brave individuals who fought against colonial rule. Stepping into Kala Pani compels us to delve into the lives of those incarcerated, understanding the harsh conditions they endured in their pursuit of a free India. The damp walls witnessed the resilience of our heroes, highlighting the indomitable spirit that sustained them through adversity. Exploring this historic prison is a profound experience, urging us to reflect on the price paid for the liberty we enjoy today.
Felt sad for those freedom fighters. This jail is a reminder. People suffered a lot for the freedom which we have now.
