Nice place to take a small walk. Located on the Tiddim Road near the village of Maibam, the memorial was built on the site of the Battle of Red Hill - a nine day skirmish between the British and the Japanese as part of the much larger campaign for Imphal. Originally under the control of the British Army, Red Hill was attacked on the evening of the 20th of May by 500 Japanese troops. Nine days of vicious fighting ensued between the two sides until Allied reinforcements arrived in the form of infantry, armour, sappers, and two troops of tanks and reclaimed Red Hill for the British Army. It was the closest the Imperial Japanese Army got to Imphal from the south during the Battle of Imphal and consequently, one of the biggest losses with only 40 out of the 500 estimated to have survived. Dedicated to the Japanese troops that lost their life at this site and the wider Battle of Imphal, the memorial consists only of concrete walls, a red sandstone floor and three large uncut sandstone blocks at the far end of the site. It is said that each of the blocks symbolises the blood spilt of the Japanese, Indian and British soldiers at the Battle of Imphal. Nearby another memorial stands as testament to the Japanese men who lost their lives in the region during World War II. Built in 1977, the more traditional looking structure is inscribed with Japanese passages and is thought to have been funded by the survivors of those who fought near Tiddim Road.

Symbol of peace India peace memorial has been built by the Japanese Government in collaboration with the Indian government in memory of those soldiers who died in the gruesome world War of 1944 which was fought on the hillock (called Red Hill) situated behind the memorial. Although the battle was fought between the Japanese and the British, there were plenty of Indian soldiers who supported the Japanese and lost their lives in this destructive battle. The place is a beautiful green garden and is very peaceful. There are no fees to enter the memorial. It is located on the main road itself and is easily accessible. Do make a 10 minute halt at this symbol of peace while on the way to or while returning from Loktak lake.

Built by the Japanese government, a place with an interesting story to tell. Not many people outside Manipur know of the battle of red Hill and what it could have meant to Indian history. The park has free entry and is easily accessible by the main road itself so you can visit and spend some time while enroute to loktak lake, all though the significance of the peace memorial warrants a visit in itself.

A historical place. Reminder of war. There's a museum attached to the place. Good to see, if you are fond of history and wars. It is closed on public holidays. So check the date and timing if you intend to visit.

India Peace Memorial is on the Maibam Lokpa Ching (Red Hills), a historical site of World War II, located in Nambol, Bishnupur district of Manipur, where the war between the British forces and the Japanese forces took place in the WWII. Constructed by the Government of Japan (by order Govt. of Manipur) with the theme "Preserve Peace Everywhere". "One of the most fierce battles of the Second World War was fought on 'Lotpaching' accounted as Red Hill or Point 2926. This Japanese Imperial Army comprised 2nd battalion, 214th Regiment and some troops of 215th Regiment off the 33rd division while the British side were units of the 17th Indian division, whose headquarter was close to the Red Hill. The Japanese attacked and occupied parts of the Hill and Maibam Valley on May 21, 1944. Intense an historic battle followed for nine days with a combined British effort involving the infantry, armour, artillery and air attacks, which ended on May 29 with the evacuation of the remaining Japanese soldiers."
