I have been going here since I was a kid. I've taken my children here as a parent. This place is amazing. Iowa history, biodiversity, animals, and prehistory. Some of the exhibits look worn and faded but some of them are well over a hundred years old. What an outstanding place to spend an afternoon with the family. OKish parking and central location in the Old Capital area make it easy to get in and out. A must visit for anyone in Eastern Iowa.

An excellent museum of natural history. Full of detailed information. Many of the exhibits are very vivid; the scenes have a lot going on. The taxidermy is superb. Admission is free.

It's a fun free place that takes about an hour and a half to go through. My son enjoyed looking at everything that they had. It's a self directed tour. We went on a Saturday and they were open until 5:00 p.m. there are bathrooms. Parking was on the street with a parking meter. The parking fee was $1.80 for 2 hours.

Awesome place! Loved the giant sloth!!!! The U of Iowa kids were very friendly and informative! I had a great time. If you're in or around the University and or have kids, it's a great place to stop & visit!!!

Lots of interesting natural history, including animal fossils, skeletons of various species, and extensive collections of bird taxidermies. Some of the collection is showing its wear, but this museum is pretty good considering it's free admission. Parking will need to be paid, but it's not too expensive

Lots of great information about the past cultures and the geology of Iowa. Much of the other displays and animal mounts seem dated by today's museum standards. Still a fun place to visit and the staff is very helpful.

Amazing place! Small but a great collection of animal, my toddler like it. Little difficult going with stroller don’t recommend

Such a cool place! It was a lot bigger than I expected it to be and there were so many great exhibits; our favorite was the bird hall on the third floor. Some of the larger taxidermied animals had visible seams but otherwise looked fantastic; I imagine being a museum that doesn’t charge admission it’s a bit hard to get professionals to go in and repair the animals. Either way, it didn’t take away from the experience and the ones with visible seams overall still looked great!
