The Legacy Museum - Museum in Montgomery - 400 N Court St, USA

This has to be my top 3 favorite history museums. You learn so much and everything is in great detail. The people are very nice and super helpful. There's a 3 part series... you cannot take pictures inside but be prepared to take notes! I shed tears twice walking through & at the memorial (the shuttle takes you to). Pictures are free to take at the memorial, however. I plan on attending again to bring more people with me. They are non-profit and not supported by the state of AL so they can give the raw and real truth about America. So, I strongly encourage to give donations since admission is only $5.

Stunning memorial and museum. Finally, it provides a mirror to the US to face the past. It is focused on slavery and hatred based on skin color in the US, but I was a bit surprised that it provided no information of thousands plus years of history of slave trading in Africa by local warlords and states and by Islamic marauders and Islamic rulers. The role played by Africans themselves in facilitating and exploiting slave trades for their own enrichment should be highlighted too. US has made tremendous progress, and I am proud of our country for facing up to this sordid past.

What a well done captivating museum!!! Filled with beautiful artwork and so much sad historical content. I truly found myself in complete shock in many points as I made my way thru the museum. My husband and I brought our 2 daughters ages 18 and 12. It was emotionally heavy for everyone. Be prepared to have some very deep conversations with your children after your visit. I recommend at the very least to give yourself 2-3 hours or more so you can fully see and experience everything. There are no pictures or videos allowed inside and there are staff members all throughout the museum. There are 2 separate buildings apparently but we ran out of time so unfortunately did not get to visit the second portion. Our tickets are indefinite so our next trip to Montgomery we will make a stop. Tickets were only $5 pp which was pretty surprising. Make the trip, experience this remarkable museum.

I know I've been to over a 100 museums in over 40 countries and this is one of my top 5. They don't allow photos on the inside. A lot of great standard and active exhibits. The slave holding cells are very creative as there's a hologram of a slave that seems to come alive when you stand in front of it. I don't believe it's for children under a certain age. A lot of graphic exhibits. If you're in Montgomery this is a must see!! It takes around two hours. Closed on Monday and Tuesday so plan accordingly.

This place is not just a museum. It's a fully educational, emotional, immersive EXPERIENCE!! Emmaculate, high end, well-thought out exhibits and displays to showcase our rich history!! Only $5 to access museum and 6 acre memorial ground. Free parking on the side of the building and a restaurant inside. Tickets must be purchased in advanced for your assigned, timed entry. We spent 3 hours on our walk through. No limit on how long you stay inside. Don't rush. Read the information...observe...appreciate every detail. I learned so much that I never learned in school. It's a must see and well worth it!!

Outstanding museum. So powerful. Exhibits are moving and require respectful reverence. I think the design is careful and sensitive so that most children 4th grade and up (as long as they can be still and silent) could visit. The museum is accessible and well-staffed. There is a restaurant and gift shop. Restrooms are clean. The entire museum is modern and beautiful. Highly recommend.

Stunning, as in I was stunned. The hard truth was so well presented I didn't recoil in denial. It was compelling. Inspirational. Revealing. Please make sure to visit all 3 sites. Do it over 2 days if possible so you are not rushed. I took this photo bc the rain looks like tears. The models are living descendants of enslaved people.

This has to be the best curated museum that I have been to yet! The staff is very professional and exhibits are state of the art. It is a very heavy subject and very educational! Plan on spending the day here along with the second location. There is a nice cafeteria style restaurant on site as well. My experience here will remain with me for the rest of my life!
