Our group reservation was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Joan and Jeff called me to discuss our group needs and were so lovely. Stepping into the property was mind blowing. The views are breathtaking. The restaurant is incredible. The grounds are well kept and reminded me of walking into a secret garden. There are so many personal touches everywhere you look and it felt more like staying with family than an Inn. Thank you Joan and Jeff for an amazing experience. Our crew is still talking about how much they enjoyed their stay and I'll be telling EVERYONE that they need to treat themselves to staying here.

You will be transported to a very unique location in California when you arrived in Mendocino and in particular at the Stanford Inn. Spectacular coastline, a thoughtful community with attention to detail whether in the food peroration and choices or adventure activities like canoeing or kayaking or hiking you will be able to leave your everyday worries behind and just embrace your location and the varied offerings. |Our family group of 10 was so welcomed at the Stanford Inn where you feel in touch with nature and are able to go at your own pace. On site you have a large covered pool, hot tub. and sauna and massage therapists . A fews steps away are the bikes you can rent and a boating shop that will help you rent canoes and |kayaks to enjoy your time on the Big River.|Do not be deterred in any way from the fact that the Stanford Inn is vegan... the included breakfast was amazing. None of us were vegan but we all are very conscious of heathy , fresh eating and choices. With 8 adults and 2 children under 12 each of us loved our breakfast dishes and the staff so accommodating. There are gardens on site and some animals for the guests ( esp. with children )to visit. Ravens can be seen everywhere. |We were first time visitors to this area and certainly want to return. A few hours north of San Francisco makes this an ideal get a way for Bay Area families but we came in from Connecticut to see family and added this to our itinerary. |This is a thoughtful, intelligent and welcoming town and resort.|Consider it strongly if looking for a less hectic experience. |A plus to all !!!!!!!

Magical peaceful vacation at Stanford Inn. Everything was wonderful from the service, the incredibly large comfortable rooms, the food, and the spectacular grounds. We brought our mother from France and our 17 year old daughter and everyone was smitten. We walked to the canoe rental cabin on the river and had a beautiful trip through untouched nature. We swam in the pool. We walked down through the stunning garden and visited with the rescue donkeys. |The Stanford inn has created a special experience far beyond any stay in a hotel. It was truly restful and healing. We can’t wait to go back.

We decided to go here for our honeymoon and were not disappointed! From the moment we checked in, our experience was amazing. We arrived to find we were upgraded to a suite (which was unbelievable) and they had chilled champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us in our room. ||There are 3 resident cats that always meet you in the lobby! The grounds were beautiful and filled with animals. We rented bicycles one day and had a blast. We only had a chance to partake in the afternoon happy hour once, but it was great. The food was DELICIOUS and the staff were amazing. We booked a massage one day which was wonderful and had the pool to ourselves during the week (we went on a Thursday - Sunday) The town is adorable and had some fun shopping. Tons of great wineries, just an hour or so away.||The Stanford Inn is located in the perfect spot and has so many things to offer. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and we will definitely be staying here again!

My husband and I came for the first time for our anniversary. It was truly a wonderful stay and I don't usually say that easily! As a lifetime vegetarian/vegan I am used to limited options when travelling, which is what first caught my eye about the Inn. It turned out to be so much more than a place that values a plant based lifestyle and ethical relationship with the environment. Everything on the 10 acre property has been curated so thoughtfully from the cleaning products used to the water bottle refill station outside the rooms. Staff were friendly, warm and unfailingly helpful. When we arrived we were greeted by chocolate covered strawberries and a hand written card in our room. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and have lovely touches like the fireplace which we put to good use! Unfortunately we were only able to stay for 1 and a half days in total due to my husband's work schedule, but we still felt it was so worth it. The gorgeous beach and coastline are just a minute away and the river flows only a short walk down the path. We had the opportunity to rent a canoe for 3 hours which was a stunning and serene experience too. Food was delicious and artfully presented and our request for onion/garlic free dishes was accomodated graciously throughout our stay. We definitely didn't make use of absolutely everything one can do at the Inn, but we did use the pool and hot tub which we loved (think of it as a fully covered outdoor pool - sort of like swimming in a greenhouse filled with tropical plants). We're really grateful to the owners and staff for creating such a haven and hope we can come back soon!

The Standard Inn is beautiful. It feels like a hidden retreat in the forest. We loved the breakfast, the amenities, and the grounds. From the animals to the gardens it was a safe haven in Mendocino. Like heaven, I would imagine. Very close to town as well. Almost felt as though we escaped in time to another place; full of peace & inspiring wellness.

My husband and I brought our border collie to stay at The Stanford Inn & Resort By The Sea for four glorious days the last week of May 2024. We stayed in room 253 which was a cottage, the Canoe Suite at Big River Bridge, and we just fell in love with the place. We did want to leave this exquisite family home and organic farm where the Stanfords have created an award-winning eco-resort that is big on luxury and creature comforts.||This is a very dog friendly Inn. Our border collie was so happy there. They had two big bowls waiting for her and a blanket and treats! We had no problem taking her out for potty breaks, and for long morning and evening walks around the gorgeous property. Truly, this is a joy and a rare treat for anyone bringing their four legged family member on vacation.||The staff is simply lovely here, especially Shannon. They are so nice and helpful and considerate! We arrived and they had left a note wishing me a happy birthday and my husband and I a happy anniversary. They had chilled champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us, and these really yummy cookies! My sister had surprised us too with an excellent bottle of wine that she ordered for us: 2018 Black Kite Angel Hawk, Anderson Valley Pinot Noir which I highly recommend.||There are rescue horses and also rescue Llamas who live there and they grazed right next to the cottage where we stayed. I was able to interact with them. They were incredibly gentle, but it was the rescue miniature donkey who stole my heart. I wanted to take her home with me. She was so sweet! If you are an animal lover, a nature lover, you are going to be in heaven here.||The weather was perfect. We loved every fine detail. The bed was so comfortable; the pillows were perfect which is rare for me to experience and finally a resort that has enough pillows and blankets for me! We loved the robes they provided. The whole cottage was cozy and nourishing, and we loved the shower! From the morning sun streaming into our bedroom, to the smell of fresh ocean air, from the view of the river out our window as we soaked it all in, to the warmth of the wood burning fire in the large fireplace that was all prepared for us, to the blanket of stars above at night, to the mouthwatering breakfasts that are included in your stay in the morning, there is so much to write about and love about the Stanford Inn! ||We loved the Stanford Herbed Polenta and could have had that everyday for breakfast! We also loved the Portobello Benedict. I am craving their breakfasts as I write this, and the coffee is so good! The breakfasts are hearty, nourishing and substantial whether you are a vegan or not. It is comfort food!||The cottage had a Nepresso machine and they were incredibly generous with different types of organic coffee pods. The organic teas were plentiful and delicious. There was plenty of interesting reading; and if you want to cook, this cottage came equipped with two burners and a large refrigerator. They even had soothing spa music playing when we walked into the cottage! You feel like you are being held in this super sweet energy! I want to go back!||In the afternoons, they serve organic teas and really good coffee up in the dining area with scrumptious homemade tea cakes and these delightful cucumber sandwiches. The lobby and dining area are beautiful! I loved the lighting and how tastefully it was decorated. There was a soothing fire going in the fireplace and the whole ambience is such a joy to experience! I love all the plants and the decor! You will want to spend time there, and peruse their book selection. There is a happy hour and also dinner served as you watch the sunset.||I wanted to go to the fitness center in the mornings, but opted instead to take our border collie for long walks around the Inn in the very early morning hours. The ocean air was invigorating! You will want to walk all around this beautiful Inn, and take in the exquisite flowers and trees and all the organic fruits and vegetables grown on the property. It is a cornucopia of delight for the senses.||I thoroughly enjoyed the solarium where there is an indoor saltwater pool that is just the right temperature and perfect for doing laps. Your skin will feel super soft! They have a wonderful large jacuzzi that is surrounded with potted plants and orchids in these lovely dragon motif ceramic pots. You feel like you are in someone's really cool home because you are! There is an incredible sauna and a shower and a changing room. I would love to be there one rainy evening. The whole place exudes charm. I felt renewed after spending a leisure morning there reading amongst all the plants, taking it all in before my spa appointment.||I loved the spa. It is nestled in the forest and is beautiful. I had the best facial ever. It was a 90 minute cell renewal facial given to me by the gifted Cristelle Hein. She took so much time with me and gave me such loving care. She is superb! Truly, this was the best facial I have ever had. My husband was blown away by how youthful I look afterwards! I felt like a new woman, like Cristelle worked magic and reversed the clock on my skin. I was glowing afterwards. I would say getting a facial by Cristelle is a must. She is simply the best.||I was walking our dog along the idyllic road leading to the cottage where we were staying ( rescue horses, my favorite beloved miniature donkey and sweet Llamas on one side, organic fruits and vegetables, gorgeous flowers and trees on the other) and I meet this incredibly charming, beautiful woman who was also walking her dog. ||She had a radiant personality and she was a delight to interact with! I thought what a joyful soul this is. I found out that she was Joan Stanford. No wonder The Stanford Inn is such a gorgeous magical place filled with really good energy, it is a reflection of Joan! I found out that she is also the author of "The Art of Play" and I am reading her book now. I am deeply touched by her sincerity, authenticity and openness. I read on the Inn's website that she has an upcoming workshop and I know anyone would benefit from time spent with her. She has such good energy!||I could go on and on about the magic and beauty the Stanfords have created here. They are walking the talk by the sustainable way they live and are sharing it with us, and inspiring all of us. They are doing good and nourishing all beings along the way. There is so much to do at the luxury resort, including going canoeing and cycling. I now can't imagine staying anywhere else in Mendocino! The Standford Inn has something for everyone! No wonder Condé Nast Traveler gave The Standford Inn & Resort By The Sea the awards for Excellence for 2023 and 2024; this is an experience you will want to have time and time again!

Stanford inn is ideally located , 2 minutes drive from the Mendocino village and yet away from all the noise. The lobby and restaurant areas are inviting snd well appointed . It’s probably the first resort I have stayed in with an in-house book store and library . The place is totally organic and vegan . So if you are strictly carnivorous you may have to find other eating options . Though we are not vegan, we didn’t mind the healthy and tasty breakfasts for a change . The only place we struggled was finding regular milk for coffee in the morning . Property itself is very charming, rooms are clean and every one of the staff was friendly . They even arranged a dog sitter for one day when we went on a long hike. With so many hiking trails and the Big river beach nearby it is an ideal location for a relaxing weekend getaway .The husband and wife team that owns this place takes personal care in following up to make sure guests enjoyed their stay. This is a little hidden gem along California’s pacific coat highway.

What a lovely and relaxing place to stay! We had the room with the view on the end of the building with the rocking chairs, which we made good use of! Ian showed us the remodeling he's doing on some of the rooms, and it's just beautiful! We will
