I've been here a few times and have always loved it. However, the Bob Cat summer camp deserves 10/5 stars. My 4 year old went 2 weeks ago and hasn't stopped talking about it to everyone and keeps asking me if she can go back! I noticed the staff and other kids were all friendly! So, she enjoyed not only the exercises and activities, but all the people too. It was very sad to see her say goodbye to all of her new friends. We will do it again and are looking forward to the school year camp.

This place is legit if you are a hardcore climber looking to gain or retain skills. At the same time it is also great for beginners to learn the skills and have fun doing it, and for a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly as well. I take my son there infrequently and he really enjoys it.

I would love to see an elliptical and treadmil here. I have no problem paying 100 a month to climb, but for that price, I feel like you should get basic gym amenities as well. Yes, I could go to Planet Fitness or whatever for relatively cheap, but I don't want to stop climbing and drive somewhere else to finish my workout. Free weights are fine. Nothing fancy, but it suits the needs of most. Just needs some kind of cardio machine. It's a bit small, but there are some interesting routes, and a few V2-V5s will satisfy most intermediate climbers. I haven't done top rope here because I enjoy bouldering more, so I can't speak to that. Also, a little more lighting or better lighting would improve the atmosphere, and honestly, it needs a really good cleaning. There are dust bunnies between the mats and the wall the size of my firstborn son. Not real hyped about it when I look down and see all the filth. Wouldn't take more than 30 minutes to vacuum up all the dust bunnies, although I'm sure it needs a more thorough cleaning than that.

If you’re going because you want a place to get a hard workout in this is a great spot. For a training climber this place has the old school vibe and the sandbagged grades to go with it which makes it really fun and hard. The implementation of the clip in system for top rope gives me significant pause. They use an archaic opposite & opposed locker system but don’t seem to retie the figure 8 knots the carabiners are on very often and some of the tails on those knots are unacceptably short. Well less than 6 inches likely due to cyclical loading and lack of stretch in the rope. They also don’t seem to flip the ropes or otherwise allow the ropes to recover their elasticity. I took a slight fall onto one of the top ropes with some slack in the system and it felt like I was going to snap in two due to there being zero stretch in the rope to provide a soft catch.

Not a huge facility, but plenty of routes and options. Took my 4 yr old ,who's never climbed before, and he LOVED it! We did the auto-belay, some bouldering, and a little of the upstairs kid's section, and he wants to have his birthday party there (the upstairs is a sectioned off kids party area).

Rise Up was a blast for my active 6 and 10 year old grandchildren. Staff provided patient, thorough safety instructions for auto belaying. Ultimately, it was the responsibility of myself and the kids to follow procedures. I allowed them to climb and belay as much as they liked and then we went home for lunch. After a rest, they begged to return. They climbed and challenged each other until they were too fatigued to continue. The kids befriended a boy about their age who was well skilled who gave them tips and encouraged them. My two young hikers now consider themselves climbers and can’t wait for their next visit.

What a cool place!!!! I had no idea it was here until I saw their name as a sponsor of a sporting event. The place is very accommodating for small or large groups or individuals. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The first time you go your equipment rental (shoes, chalk, harness) is included in your day pass cost. It's great for beginners and experienced climbers and very close to all sorts of restaurants and cool places within walking distance to plan a great day in downtown Lynchburg. They had a kids birthday party at the time I was there and they were having a blast. They also have special prices for students and first responders.

We had a wonderful time as a family of four on our first climbing experience at Rise Up. JB and Stephen were very welcoming and helped explain and demonstrate everything to us safely. We were pleased that even our skeptical 5 year old was able to climb safely (and that they had equipment available for her petite frame). To top it all off, because it was our oldest's birthday, the guys surprised our kids with free swag and it made the entire experience that much sweeter! This is a wonderful small business that's easy to support - family fun, movement, and impeccable customer service! Five stars!
