Nice hidden gem of a zoo within prospect park. Enjoyed the layout and easy to navigate. Has a variety of exhibits to see, a great add on to an overall experience of the park. Has a learning center for kids to get interactive, gift shop is small but decent selection of items. Did not see much in the way of food so bring snacks and lunch
A small urban zoo that you can easily spend 1-2hrs at with your partner, kids or friends! Affordable, good for any weather, and convenient for any kind of transportation.
One of the cheaper zoos in the area. The wonderful thing about this zoo is that most of the exhibits are indoors. The Discovery Trail is outdoors but very shady. The Barn is outdoors (in the colder months, the barn has heat). The zoo is easy to navigate; everything circles around the sea lions.
P.S. Bring quarters to feed the ducks in the Discovery Trail and hooved animals in the barn!
Parking - nothing on-site but street parking is available. on the weekends, it's best to arrive early for an easy spot right out front. On Sundays, street parking is free.
Entrance - the main entrance is in the park, walkway entrance towards the corner of Flatbush and E Lake Dr (toward Ocean Avenue). in the spring or summer, the entrance on Flatbush Avenue is oftentimes open as well.
Food and Drinks - water fountains by the bathroom. minimal food and drinks, snacks available in the gift shop. plenty of food options nearby but wish I could do more to support the zoo directly.
Bathrooms - very clean and located by the sea lions and barn
It's perfect if you want to visit the animals and not have to deam with tons of people. If you want to see a large variety of animals or exotic animals, this isn't the place. But if you want a nice leisurely day with the kids this is a great choice.
This is small but cute and interesting zoo located inside gorgeous prospect park. You could visit this zoo by yourself or continue exploring whole prospect park. For small kids, adults and whole family, this would a pleasant time spent over the weekend. Remember, if you would like to see sea lions fed, you need to know the times ahead. This information is on the website.
I had the most amazing experience here!! The zoo is a perfect size for young children. There’s a big variety of animals but the actual zoo isn’t ok big, making it easier to walk around with children. There was plenty opportunities for the kids to be interactive with the animals. I had a wonderful time. Definitely a must visit for families.
The Prospect Park Zoo is a lovely place to spend an afternoon. It's conveniently located inside Prospect Park, and admission is only $10. While the zoo isn't too big, the animals that live there are very lively. I really enjoyed spending time watching the baboons, especially one particularly cute family with a baby baboon. The sea lions near the entrance were very active, friendly and talkative too. Discovery Trail also made for a nice outdoor nature walk, and it was fun to see the porcupines and ducks living there. They had some prepacked sandwiches, salads, and snacks inside, which were fine, but I would probably bring my own next time to avoid the cost.
Amazing zoo that I overlooked and didn't consider the vast amount animals and nice area to walk similar to the Bronx but closer to home.
Excellent zoo with knowledgeable staff. Animals have open spaces. Enjoyed watching the playful bamboos and the cute red pandas
