Love everything here: Tacos BANH MI - interesting combination between Mexican and Vietnamese food. The vibe is very Texas, everyone is attentive and friendly. I know I am gonna say something obvious - Tex-Mex / Mexican food in TX is wayyyy much more better than anywhere else in different states, even though there are several huge Mexican communities in North America. Will be back!
Great restaurant with amazing drinks, food was authentic and full of atmosphere! Very close to the Moody Center, has become a favorite of ours before a concert.
I'm really surprised at the overall review score for this restaurant. I chose to eat here because it had a decent score and it's proximity to our plans for the rest of the evening. Retrospectively reading the lowest reviews all have a commonality that was true for our visit. Got a seat relatively quickly, however it took 20 minutes for a servers to come by, she was taken by surprise that we were ready to order and was unprepared. Upon her return took our order and took another 15 minutes to get 2 beers and a queso. That's 35 minutes before we had a drink! In all it was about an hour to get fed and only took about 10 minutes to eat, the food was terrible. Beans were over seasoned, 1 small piece of fish in each taco and corn tortillas were hard and inedible. Queso is bland, had to add salsa. Chips and salsa were ok, thank goodness bc that's about all we ate. I'd like to think it was just a bad night but that's your gamble.
A great setting both indoor and on the patio. My favorite thing I had was the spicy marg. They made a really great one (and I would call myself a connoisseur). Everything else was good but not standout. They do take larger group reservations which was really nice.
I’ll start of with the positives— atmosphere was nice- lowish ceilings, dimly lit and a medium noise level that makes it a nice intimate place for conversation. There’s all kinds of cool decor and is overall a cool looking spot. Staff are lovely human beings and they’re very attentive and warm people. Unfortunately that’s where my compliments end— the food and drinks were pretty mid. Better than the “Tex-Mex” at the Oasis, but that’s not saying much. Maybe we just ordered wrong, but the food was pretty mid at best. The food is a bit on the bland side, so if you’re avoiding too much sodium, that can be a nice plus. I don’t think I’d come back here to eat, but it seems like they host a lot of fun events at Pelon’s.
Dinner at Pelons was the best way to end our family vacation. Staff are very attentive and nice. The food is really good. We ordered the spicy shrimp tacos and they are so good. My kids loved the enchiladas and rice. We will definitely stop by everytime we visit Austin 🥰
I decided to give this restaurant a try. After seeing a few reviews on social media.
I can’t say that I was knocked off my feet. I’m a big fan of Tex-Mex cuisine. I decided to order something simple for lunch which was quesadillas, refried beans, rice and a side of queso. I wasn’t impressed by a long shot. It wasn’t horrible but it didn’t exceed my expectations. The drinks were okay I guess. I liked the outdoor scenery. After spending about $90 for two including a tip because my waiter was great! Sad to say I will not be back 😕
The food was amazing, so was the service. We order stake and chicken fajitas… SOO GOOD.
My husband ordered a strawberry margarita and my brother in law ordered an apple margarita they BOTH tasted like “grapefruit”. Not good at all.
The young lady making the drinks hardly washed her hands. I gave 4 stars because of that.
