A local suggested this restaurant to me while professing her love for their country ham biscuits. Once I learned how to cut the flat biscuits correctly (slice in half so they're almost like a cracker) I really enjoyed it. The grits were just ok, but everything else was great - they added cheese to my scrambled eggs and the bacon was crispy - which is just the way I like it. I bought a piece of buttermilk pie before leaving and devoured it in my car after promising myself I would only try a bite and save it for later. I have been daydreaming about that pie ever since! I got out of the gift shop relatively unscathed after petting their store kitty. Highly recommend!
Not a bad place at all! Food was good, super homestyle. This place really reminded me of growing up and the food we were raised on.
Not exactly my taste or style but for the price, you can't beat this place.
Very home feeling, tight and close quarters to other tables.
There is one small bathroom and a first and second floor shop
We were in the area visiting and decided to stop and have breakfast at this beautiful little restaurant. I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere is charming and food was delicious. I ordered eggs over-hard, toast and bacon. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The gentleman who seated us was very friendly and shared his recommendations for sites to see in the area. There is also a cute little gift shop located in the building.
Saw this was open for breakfast and lunch and decided it would be a good place to try as they offer Brunswick stew. The service was efficient and the food was delicious. I had stew with biscuits and ham (on the biscuits). I noticed they had a lunch special (pulled pork today) as well as 2 different fixed menu offers with a main course, biscuits, drink and pie included. I wasn't hungry enough for that. This restaurant has been here a long time according to the menu. I'm sorry I never visited when I was living here back in my college days.
Everyone was really nice but the food was mediocre at best. The signature breakfast comes with ham, sausage, bacon, grits, eggs and biscuits and it was very disappointing, especially compared with other similarly priced breakfast platters in the area. The eggs were over cooked (I ordered over med and they were completely cooked through) and the grits were instant and flavorless. The sausage had great flavor but was way more greasy than normal sausage. The country ham was pretty good and the bacon had good flavor. But the biscuits were some kind of flat dense rectangle that definitely does not deserve the name. (I'm from the south and know from biscuits... These were very unpleasant). All in all I would not come back nor would I recommend it. I would say it would be worth a one time visit for the experience, but given the very cringey, overtly "plantation chic" vibe they're clearly going for, I can't even recommend that in good faith. Final call: avoid.
It definitely is a unique older place. The gift shop has many handmade items. The food was solid but not incredible. The dumplings had a good portions of chicken. Other folks like the bbq pulled pork. The biscuits where not your usual biscuits, but more flat. The Virginia shaved ham was salty and pleasant.
Perfectly poached eggs and fluffy pecan pan cakes. Plenty of food, delicious and great value. Excellent service. Quaint colonial atmosphere. Attached gift store. Sufficent parking. Better than your best Cracker Barrel.
Very homey southern food. My husband had the biscuit and ham, with the vegetable soup. I am vegan so they gave me a larger soup portion and toast. My husband had a nice apple pie slice I had fresh fruit salad. The manager is knowledgeable and proud of his establishment (which he has a right to be). Staff were friendly and efficient.

Very good place for family style lunch. Very generous serving for the price! The meatloaf was a little disappointing, but maybe because we're not used to the regional seasoning. The ribs were deliciously soft and delectable. Would highly recommend
