We had the best time staying at Hinterwood with all of our family! We had all of the cabins rented and felt very well taken care of by Garrett and Kate. The cabins are beautiful and very nice and clean. We loved that the Viewhouse had 3 bedrooms with a private bath for each. We needed those 3 rooms, but had we not, I would've preferred one of the other kitchens, which were quite a bit larger. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy a long weekend together in such a special setting!
I would highly recommend Hinterwood to anyone staying in the Black Hills. The location is squarely between Hill City and Keystone, about a 10 minute drive to Mount Rushmore and all amenities. Kate was a great host. She goes above and beyond to make sure your stay will be perfect. The cabins are simple but exactly what our family of 5 needed. Clean and comfortable. No phone service in the valley is a plus.
We spent 2 weeks in The Notch and loved, loved, loved every minute. Kate and Garret made sure everything was 110% up to our expectations. The cabin was clean quiet and had everything you could imagine to make our vacation perfect. When we arrived, Kate had a dozen just laid eggs ( from the properties chickens) waiting for us. Hinterwood is close to everything you could want but peaceful and welcoming to come home to after a long sightseeing day. From watching all the furry creatures during the day, to gathering around the firepit at night ,we could not have had a better experience. Thank you Kate and Garret for a most wonderful experience. I highly recommend Hinterwood Cabins.
We stayed in the Dray cabin during a family trip. We found the cabin cozy and very clean. The cabin had a nice porch and a private back patio area. Many of the units are connected but this unit sits on its own and has more privacy. The dishes and towels were all nice quality and the dining table was comfortable seating for four. We actually chose to rent two cabins as the cabins only have one bathroom so for 4 people we would not have found that convenient. There is WiFi but no television which was fine. Glad we stayed in the keystone area as it is central to go north or south. The cabin has a few steps to enter, as I use a wheelchair my husband helped me up the steps. The interior was relatively user friendly to someone using a wheelchair.
We had a wonderful trip staying at the Poppy Cabin and our daughter and her family were next door at the Winsome Cabin. Obvious love went into the building of these cabins, we were very comfortable there and loved the chickens! Also saw marmots, deer and a fawn. We had a downpour, the chickens all went running out of the coop because the rain hitting was so loud and then they ran back in - except for one that ran outside for awhile and then figured out the coop would be better! Nice firepits and chairs and a well equipped kitchen. The only thing we needed more of was hand towels in the bathroom and kitchen. We will stay here again!
Stayed here for a few days and it was awesome. Kate was friendly and helpful. Their blog had great recommendations on activities. The rooms were cozy and comfortable and stylish. The location was in a quiet little valley and close to both Hill City and Keystone. We loved staying here, would definitely recommend!
Very beautiful property and secluded. Great place if you need a break from civilization for a while. Cabins are very nice, would definitely book again!
We stayed in The Winsome Cabin, and we had an amazing time! It was a beautiful area to stay, the cabins were very nice, and we had an awesome time. It has amazing nearby access to Mount Rushmore, Keystone, and Custer State Park. 10/10

Although this is just a tunnel; for many folks this will be a really neat experience. In addition to being a one lane tunnel through the rock of the Black Hills one of the entrances is part of a pig tail loop in the road. One note, be sure to honk
We really enjoyed our two night stay here. The host, Marilyn, was so gracious and helpful with excellent directions to area attractions and suggestions for places to dine. Stayed in the lodge in the CC Gideon room and it was very comfortable and love
Every wonder what a roller coaster would be like in the real world? Well, wonder no more! This road is amazing! You will feel like a race car driver as you wind your way through narrow forest roads filled with ups, downs and âpigtailâ corkscrew t
Loved it! The coffee was good. The food was good. The gelato was delicious. The atmosphere was amazing. They had beautiful flower pots with bright red geraniums all around the outside. The outdoor space was really beautiful and had Cornhole, a cool o
An absolutely must see for any American! I would even say if you're a foreigner touring the U.S., you need to stop by and see Mount Rushmore. It's not too far of a drive if you're coming from Rapid City. I suggest bringing some snacks for the trip bu
Fun for the kids to pretend being teachers or students. Scavenger hunt and ringing the bell was engaging. Had lots of fun on the equipment outside. Great history.
Excellent experience here in Keystone. Two dinner at the Ruby House, two success. Fair prices, good food, waiting for the table was pleasant and well managed by the bar bartender and waiter with excellent cocktails options. Difficult to find places i
