Great for second visit and so on but the first visit was very confusing. The front desk just sat there chatting to one another and did the bare minimum for first timers to sign the waiver and that’s it. Nothing was explained about logistics of membership and stuff. The intro class was great though and it has everything you need about climbing.
After the first time at Hangar, you basically know what to do. This gym is relatively new and clean. Can’t deny it’s a great environment for climbing. Just that the customer service is not beginner friendly at all, otherwise if you just go there and climb, it’s a good gym.
This is an interesting addition to the Hangar 18 collection. The location is great for Pasadena/Sierra Madre/Arcadia/Monrovia.
They have 10 auto-belays lines, which are very useful. I think some of the route setting suffers badly from size discrimination though. One line is tailored specifically for new climbers and kids, with only one route.
Most of the space is taken up by bouldering - I'm not a fan of that. I think at least one wall should be converted to top roping with overhangs (like the Long Beach location). It would encourage the climbers to learn to belay. They've got some colossal overhangs for bouldering.
The toilets are clean and well maintained, like all Hangar 18 locations. There are no storage bins/lockers near the front auto-belays area, which is inconvenient (and unlike the South Bay and Long Beach locations).
Instructors are so nice and helpful. Front staff are amazing. Community is friendly and gave chalk to a stranger for free. Came here with my brothers this time and it was a great experience. Will be bringing my team soon
This is the first time I've ever left a Google review for anything ever. Highly recommend
Do not come here if you are bringing a minor child. Their waver system does not work and the people manning the desk are not capable of dealing with any issues. I filled out all the required electronic forms for my daughter, and received the corresponding email confirmations. However, they claimed that they need some other confirmation which never arrived at my end. Since my email was clearly correct, the issue was on their end. However, the only explanation I received was that "lots of people have this problem." Extremely unprofessional and a terrible waste of our time!
Lotta of fun. Can boulder or auto belay. Weight room is simple but well maintained. Staff are helpful and there's plenty climbing equipment for those with none.
Great new addition to the Hangar 18 gyms. Was another rock climbing gym in the past that they converted to their own. The padding is now much better and safer, the routes are pretty good and there are a lot of varieties for different levels. The overhang is also pretty fun! Great place to bring kids and family for fun times, or for more serious climbers who want a really good workout. Smaller than some of the other gyms, it still gives you a lot of work out options. They have a smaller top roping area with some simple routes. This is mostly a bouldering gym.
I’ve been here a couple times now. The settings are fun but I think the grading is a little bit sandbagged. Overall cool place though.
Was visiting the area and found this little bouldering gym. Gym is very small but there’s a wide range of bouldering problems. Note that there is no locked lockers but that’s the only downside here.
