Enjoyed walking along and reading the history of the place. Access to the beach along the back.
Well worth a visit. Very nice to find a site that preserves the history of the Spanish-American War on the mainland U.S.A.
There is a large wooded area that has been preserved around the fort and there is beach access here. There is a large, modern picnic pavilion and a visitors center/ museum that is a must to see when it is open. The volunteers do a great job, are knowledgeable, and kind.
This was a great place to visit. Lots of history. Backs onto a lovely beach area. So a good way to spend a morning.
Interesting place for some local history. Ruins of old batteries, beautiful grounds, history museum.
Amazing historical location that is very well presented!
History all around!
That when it's combined with pavilion restrooms and a private beach.
Take a look for yourself.
This gem of history in Beaufort is full of detailed information, and walking through the ruins is truly exciting.
Visit the visitors' center first to understand what you are experiencing as you walk the grounds.
Any history lover will love to visit this Spanish American War era fort. However, you might be disappointed to learn that the mines in the ocean are no longer present. I consider this to be a missed opportunity to play a high stakes game of Marco Polo.
