Cottage Place On Squam Lake - Motel in Holderness - 1132 US-3, USA

Hi. My husband and I are from Cape Cod, MA. ||||We made reservations for Fri Oct 6 & Sat Oct 7 (2023)....as a long awaited and well deserved Get-Away. We used to come when it wasThe Black Horse and loved it. ||||When looking at your website and facebook page - we were THRILLED to make reservations and stay at what 'SEEMED' to be clean and quaint. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE AT ALL. We actually LEFT Saturday night - as the TONS OF CHIPMUNKS running under/on/around the cottage- was unbearable.||||We are not fancy people - but we did NOT EXPECT the filthy, run-down premises.||||I thought that the Cottage Place would MAKE THIS RIGHT and at LEAST REFUND at least HALF OF WHAT WE PAID - NOT SO....Instead we were sort of told-off. Awful.||||I am including pics for reference. ||||Also, FALSE ADVERTISING IS NOT OK. ||WE BOOKED BASED ON THEIR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA PICS.||||*** I hope that the New Owner perhaps can make things right ***

I have been going both to Cottage Place multiple times a year for an amount of years and probably my family is one of the higher yearly spend to this wonderful place near the edge of the White Mtns but still in the Lakes Region, including prior to when it was under former ownership/name. To be clear, is it the Ritz Carlton?-no, but it never pretended to be. It is a wonderful rustic cottages/suites in a cove in the smaller lake of two connected lakes that is quite honestly the best use of my money to become relaxed and at one with the world. It is just on the edge of having near zero cell service, which allows me to truly disconnect. Both the cottages and suites are taken care of, and if there are any issues(let's be real, all places can and will have issues at some point) the staff will more than attend to things. My direct family goes up at least twice a year(including a week with a large amount of extended family/friends), and Nathalie knows many times if I've had a not great week I've called/emailed and came up last minute for the weekend certain times of the year.

I've traveled all over the world and stayed at a lot of different hostels and budget hotels, and this has to be among the very worst, especially for the price. Forget quaint- this place is rundown and gross. We stayed in one of the "cottage suites" in the main lodge. The bathroom smells like sewage, there is mold growing on the ceiling, and paint peeling everywhere. There are not enough working outlets in the room to charge your phone overnight- we had to unplug some lamps in order to charge our devices. The beds and pillows are very old and uncomfortable and the comforters and bedspreads did not seem clean. The view from the beach is beautiful but there is constant traffic noise (including semi-trucks). The listing makes it sound like there are kayaks and paddle boards available for use but it turns out you have to pay extra to use them. The hotel also doesn't provide beach towels but asks that you don't use their bath towels on the beach- not sure how that is supposed to work. I wish we'd paid attention to the other bad reviews and found somewhere else to stay- this place was terrible.

This place was amazing, I took my wife and kids on a min vacation, it was amazing, the lake right across the street was clean and the kids loved every day we were there, great little spot for a mini getaway, there is a busy road so if you do bring your dog I would becareful, we didn't bring our dog just in case. we stayed in cottage #2 really nice rooms and all the necessities you need, I'm planning another visit soon. There was also a cool table you could play chess on which we thought was super cool for late night games.

We went up for a quick two night getaway and Cottage Place did not disappoint. The cottages were exactly as advertised. They are no frills but clean and you can't beat the location. We'll definitely be back.

This place remains a favorite simple weekend or extended weekend getaway. Classic cozy cabins. We stay at the same cabin every time. Makes it a more personal stay. We can also bring our dog. This trip, we didn't want to check out at 10:00 on a Sunday. So we bought another night and left late in the day on Sunday. May they could offer a special extended weekend package!?!?

Cottage place provided the perfect spot to rest our heads for a couple of days of hiking in the whites! The feel of the room was that of stepping back into time where you felt as though you were back at grandma and grandpas cabin. A quaint space with all the necessary amenities to make your stay great. The view of Squam lake from the large window where the kitchen table was made it even better. Thank you for allowing us to travel back in time and enjoy a little time away at “the cabin”!

We made the reservation and payment on the phone. Room was ready with the keys inside. Very easy check in. The house was clean, and fresh air, good heating. Comfortable beds. And overall beautiful place to stay - considering also the lake. Big thx, and strongly recommend it .
