We had an enjoyable family vacation here in July 2023. Beautiful beach and fairly easy local traffic with several nice places to eat, a grocery, and plenty of beach gift shops.
All the beaches are beautiful in OBX. this one is no exception.
Great beach to spend your time on. We dove from the beginning to end which is Virginia/North Carolina line. We got to be special enough to see the wild horses and a couple of their babies. One of my favorite beaches.
If you’re 4 wheeling air down and up at the light house as there is no place else to air down other than on the beach. Check tides (times and range) as beach looks like it could get real thin on a spring tide. Light House has very clean restrooms by museum (free air is in lot behind museum to the right of the covered tables). Free to drive on the beach if you don’t park (that will cost $50). Free beach parking with rest rooms and I believe showers directly across from Light House entrance.
We visited in September and we never felt crowded on the beach; everyone spread out and respected the peace. The long stretches of open sand were perfect for kite flying and we even had one stay up for hours thanks to a particularly windy day. The sea shells were pretty and varied and after a storm I was able to find some sea glass. Overall, it's a nice uncrowded OBX beach.
A lovely beach with plenty of memories to make. Our families enjoyed driving the separate beach to see wild horses, we hunted crabs at night, we enjoyed the photo opportunities down at historic Corolla park. I had a cinema worthy memory here when I exchanged waves with military personnel hanging off a passing helicopter, all while I sat perched in the bed of truck, flying down a beach with wind in my hair. Corolla has my heart.
Great chunk of coastline that preserves the presence of wild horses that inhabited the island from the crashed Spanish armada ships. However, it's really sad to see how developed it's become. Horses don't even flinch at the sight of people because there are houses popping up all over their habitat. It's basically becoming another development without paved roads.
Amazing beach regardless of the season!! Very laid back in the off season and plenty of room for pets and humans alike. Beautiful to see the pelicans flying right above the waves... And perhaps even some dolphins!!
This is a beautiful lighthouse. I did not go to the top but they did let me in to get pictures. It is $12 to get in. There is also a really nice gift shop that I loved and a museum. Only issue is the museum is closed on the weekends. The surrounding
We enjoyed a lovely stay this summer. The views from the sound were amazing, and we enjoyed some beautiful sunsets from the pool deck.. The Inn provides a nice cold breakfast which was very convenient and a good way to start our morning. We changed t
