A good place for evening walk. Beautiful and clean park with some nice sculptures.
There's also a lake, bridge. Parking lot is so big. Easy entrance and it's free.
My wife and I are on a cross-country road trip from South Carolina to California, and we stopped for an overnight stay in Oklahoma City. While here, we visited the Centennial Land run Monument. It's in the Bricktown district as part of the Chickasaw Plaza. The monument is actually several statues depicting the great Centennial Land Run of 1889. The statues are very big and well done. A person could spend quite a bit of time studying each sculpture, as each one is quite detailed and "tells the story" of the individual's journey. The combined sculptures are spread throughout the plaza, and a nice walkway allows guests to see each sculpture close up. There are also a few signs that tell about the land run and the historical significance of the event. I wish that we had more time to spend here as well as explore the nearby river walk. It's a nice place to stop, admire, and learn.
This monument commemorates the 1889 land rush into Oklahoma. The statues are outstanding. Horses, riders, wagons, animals give the visitor a sense of grandeur and chaos. Larger than life scale allows the viewers a unique perspective. The parking, walkway and manicured grounds are easily accessible all around the monument. It was a leisurely 30-40 minute trip to see all sides.
Wow. Pretty neat and intricate details on these oversized bronze statues, which cost 6M to put in. You should see it at least once.
This monument is stunning. First of all these things look to me to be larger than "actual size" (of a typical horse, dog, rabbit, person etc.) So it is easy to see even from a decent distance. Check out the unique details of each piece! My favorite detail is the Rabbit running from the landrunners at the very front, possibly signifying the disruptive onset of the rushing settlers, or how quickly it all occured. This is not a replication of the same horse or person dozens of times, each statue is entirely unique. Worth the walk!
We stopped here trying to check out the monument and the wall along the canal. Our first attempt to get into the parking lot was unsuccessful when we went over the bridge toward the River Sports area. In coming back around, we ended up in the right place. The monument is very impressive with many interesting details since as the man who last his hat and the stuff falling out of the wagon. The walk along the canal was pleasant and a nice opportunity to give our dog a chance to stretch her legs. More signage of how to make your way away from the monument toward Bricktown would have been helpful. Finding bridges across the canals was particularly straightforward.
I love it. Kids and adults enjoyed it. Is relaxing and beautiful. Mr. Mitch was the amazing guy who was telling us the history of the place during the boat ride.
The most amazing bronze monument ever! The intricate details and craftsmanship is mind-blowing!
