Came here to do some of their walking trails. Checked out the farm on a previous visit. Ranger was very helpful with our questions and the readings were informational with the battle in the area. They also have bathrooms near the parking area, which is great. There were a number of trails and they all branch off and connect with each other, so we were kind of confused, but we ended up going about 3 miles. Many of the trails were muddy with the rain a few days ago, so bring proper shoes or you will have to take a different trail. When we got back, we also found a number of ticks, so please check yourself very well before leaving.
To kick off the Battle of Second Manassas, the Iron Brigade clashed with Stonewall Jackson’s Rebel force at Brawner’s Farm in Groveton, VA just west of the First Bull Run battlefield. What ensued was two full days of the Union trying to smash Jackson’s Confederate left along an unfinished railroad.
We scouted Brawner Farm for family pictures and it truly is beautiful! Very well maintained, wide paths, quiet and peaceful, plus fantastic views! Oh not to mention, bathrooms!!!
I highly recommend checking it out!
Beautiful area, especially for hiking on a nice day. For anyone doing the Passport to the National Parks, this is one of the 4 locations for the Manassas Battlefield cancellations (stamps with the date on them)
Excellent narrative exhibit in the Brawner farmhouse building. A nice, scenic hike to the farmhouse from Sudley Methodist Church. Posted signs along the trail were interesting and informative. Park Service employees were helpful and friendly.
Remember there were TWO battles and there are TWO visitor centers: Henry Hill House for 1st Manassas and Brawner Farm Interpreter Center for 2nd Manassas. They do not make this clear.
This is a great starting point for hiking some of the battlefield. The park ranger was super helpful!
The beginning phase of another great tragedy in American history, the Second Battle of Manassas starts here. 5000 acres of fields, woods, streams and wildlife with 42 miles of trails make this memorial park a great place to spend a day in all seasons.
