This bridge is amazing. The only people who would not give it 5 stars would rather swim across the colorado river.
Congrats! You made it to the river! This iconic bridge is such a cool experience to see, walk across, and witness the power of the Colorado River. You're so close to Bright Angel and Phantom Ranch campsites...keep moving forward!
It is well worth the trip to cross this bridge and to be able to see the Colorado River. Don’t try to do it in one day if you have not prepared yourself for months in advance for the hike. You can always take a mule if you don’t want to hike it. Getting is down isn’t the problem.... hiking back up is the real challenge.
One of two bridges that cross the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon. There isn't another crossing for hundreds of miles. This bridge is used by mule trains, who carry goods to Phantom Ranch. If you are on this bridge, you are right above the mighty Colorado river which has spent millions of years carving out the Grand Canyon.
Great bridge, supportive vibes. All parts were hand carried down from the rim which is pretty wild. I'm thankful I didn't have to swim across.
My favorite section of the South Kaibab Trail is between The Tipoff and the Kaibab Suspension Bridge. Working the cancellations, I usually get a couple of nights in a dorm at Phantom Ranch twice a year. I always spend my free day strolling along the River Trail between the South Kaibab Suspension Bridge and Silver Bridge. Hike west along the River Trail. The River Trail turns into Bright Angel. Hike west a little farther, until you can see the Kaibab Bridge and Silver Bridge. Great spot to catch the Sunrise. I spend most of my day right there soaking up the sound of the Colorado River, watching the rafts go by, talking to fellow hikers, eating lunch and enjoying life. Leave No Trace!
Love the tunnel. super cool stuff. Bridge was nice and fun to cross. Inner child came out.
It was my most extreme experience in my life. Great views on the route and great adventure. However, you must remember to prepare yourself physically and mentally for this adventure. Especially when you are going to go alone. Everyone has their own Everest, it was mine to me.
Our family of four hiked to Phantom Ranch in December 2021. The Grand Canyon saw a decent amount of snow leading up to our departure, and the first 2-3 miles of our descent and last 2-3 miles of our ascent were snow covered. The entire Phantom Ranc
Plan ahead and don't miss this wonder of the world. Less than 10% of visitors see the alpine north rim which lies an additional 500 meters above the south rim. Step back in time into this timber lodge built in 1928, with a most impressive large din
