I was absolutely blown away at this house! It’s a real-life fantasy that inspired me so much that I got a membership just so I could return for the longer tour! Be sure to book in advance as the groups must be small to truly enjoy the details of this masterpiece!
The tour guides were nice. Alot of cool architecture. But I was a little disappointed in the racist pieces in the house and how they kind of brushed over it. You would think the fact that they profit from him being in the LGBTQ community, that advocacy and inclusion would make sense.
But I know they dont get enough foot traffic from actual minorities to push them to do more than tell someone in the middle of the tour "by the way. There's some offensive pieces...moving along"
Odd and dark. I was surprised that the house was so dark in decoration given its location and the fact that it was a summer house. But that was what Sleeper wanted. This house was largely decorated in a Colonial style and does not reflect the grand nature of houses from that era. It has many small rooms and shows the many add-ons. Keeping in mind that this was built as an early "showroom" of sorts for clients to see the types of room Sleeper could deliver as a decorator, it all makes sense. It is not a house to live in but rather one to house collections. Not one of my favorites simply based on the 1700s style and the smaller dark rooms. Still Gloucester is a great place to visit!
This was simply amazing!! Well worth the cost in my opinion. Make sure to let them know if you have AAA. You get buy one get one free ticket! The house is expansive and unique. It's actually not really old but it looks much older due to the design tastes. The docent was knowledgeable and did a great job leading our group through. Before and after the tour you can spend some time walking around the beautiful grounds.
Docent did a great job explaining the history of the buildings and the owners who lived there. Wonderful collection of art, glass, furniture etc that reminded me of my grandparents time. The gardens and views of the harbor is awesome too. Parking is free. Tour an hour long.
An absolutely beautiful house right on the water in Gloucester. If you are a fan of historic homes then this is a must.
Absolutely enchanting building and grounds! I fell in love with Henry Sleeper and his design genius thanks to our amazing tour guide, Lee, whose enthusiasm was palpable. The entry fee seems expensive, but it’s well worth it to be able to look around the beautiful rooms, which are jam-packed with interesting artifacts. Honestly, Sleeper’s collection of American needlework (from embroidery, needlepoint, and crewel samplers of all kinds to rugs) could probably merit its own tour. A real Gloucester jewel. Skip the tasteless Hammond Castle & visit here instead!
Striking oceanfront mansion, a collector's Heaven. The guided tour will bring you through several rooms of this mansion, each with its own theme and collections of colors and shapes. There is no part of this home that doesn't look like someone could just walk in and live there- nothing is roped off or protected.

Very tasty Lebanese dishes and friendly owners. A lot of people started coming in as we ordered so it's a really popular place. A nice change of pace if you need a break from clams and lobster in Gloucester.
I absolutely love this place. I usually get a martini with breakfast, but today, just coffee. The food here is phenomenal, and the service is impeccable. I do recommend coming early. The place tends to fill up fast. The options are great, and I LOVE
