YMCA shimla Tourist Hostel - Featured Reviews (100)
Big rooms with comfortable bed but the bathroom was down the hall. I would expect a connected bathroom for the price I paid. No breakfast when I stayed (April 20th) as there weren't many guests. Lots of steps up to the hostel and some of them should be repaired. Very close to the cathedral and the other sites.
this place is great but also some things you should know: pros- very helpful and friendly staff. the man who runs the front desk was so kind to me and chatted with me everyday about my questions. such a kind heart. the location is amazing. right between mall road and the ridge you can't get much closer to the tourist heart of shimla. the view is awesome. the bed was very comfortable. cons- it is an old building and hasn't been updated for a long time. do not expect anything fancy. the walls and floors are pretty rough. hot water only from 7p-9a. this was fine for me but something to note. no toilet paper or towels or soap offered. all in all keep in mind this is a very budget option for shimla and you will not get many amenities. probably best for backpackers on a budget or people more interested in location than fanciness. this place is not fancy!! but in its own way it is homey and overall enjoyed my stay there.
You get what you pay for. Rooms are cheap and facilities are BASIC. As others have said, the building has had no upgrades for decades. The carpet in my room stank and the water kept cutting off in the communal toilets/showers for several hours at a time. EVERYTHING costs extra - even leaving your luggage in a dusty room for a few hours. The man on reception was very unwilling to help with small requests like a place to hang up our clothes that got soaked in the rain. The best thing about this hostel is the view...
YMCA shimla is a budget friendly hostel with basic facilities and amenities and the location of the hostel is impressive. The comman area has great view. The staff in YMCA are very kind and polite. I stayed at YMCA for one month and had a good experience.
One of the worst places to stay in shimla. The place has no "hostel" vibe and the owners are only concerned about money. The rooms are sub-par. There is no kitchen. The toiler doors don't close. Even to keep a small bag, they charged me around 650 rs for a week. For my stay a few days later, they cancelled the booking at the eleventh hour. Very unprofessional. I was left with no place to stay. Please don't consider staying here. I can't "reply" on the owner's response, so adding here : 1. Though I selected the "basic" dorm, the washrooms are same for all the rooms. The doors don't close and geyser doesn't work. 2. This is not the first time I have used a hotels cloak room. No one has charges for that. Moreover, some staff says 60 rs some says 80. 3. I had mentioned about late check-in during the time of booking. Why could you not have cancelled that time itself? During my first stay, all you said was "I might be out of town so might need to cancel it". Very unprofessional behaviour. Me and 4 others had to look for an alternative.
It's a very nice place. Reception, water, food etc. facilities are good.hall and room are in a very good condition. Also there is a dance academy. And every age group peoples in there. they are very fun loving. It's the good experience for me to have there
Stayed at YMCA Shimla for 2 weeks, returning just this Monday. My 8 year old and I had a very pleasant and relaxing stay here. We felt safe and happy. The staff is friendly and helpful. My child is a very fussy eater but happily ate the breakfast served here everyday so I've no complaints with it. It is simple but is what I would call homemade... not heavily oily or too spicy. The entire place is old but clean and definitely part of the history of Shimla. I definitely recommend YMCA Shimla to families and anyone else. We love the old Dining room and spent a lot of time either on the terrace or the veranda downstairs looking at the gorgeous views of Shimla and the clouds rising up. Wifi is erratic in the rooms but very good if you sit in the wifi zones. We will definitely stay at the YMCA again if we return to Shimla.
Good service , the man in the reception was very kind. We took pg here it was actually budget friendly stay. Very nice place , food was good ! And the service too. Totally budget friendly

We were there in the month of October and had a really great time staying at The Getaway. Located away from the city, the property is serene, relatively new, clean and spacious. The rooms have a great view, overlooking the hills and the valley. Mr. C

Rama is a nice friendly lady and has good experience in her field. I enjoyed her signature facial very much. My skin has become dry in Shimla weather, but after doing the facial, I feel much relieved. Also done waxing, that was good, too.
