Vidyasagar Smriti Mondir - Museum in Birsingha - Medinipur West, India

It's the place , where the great educationist, the pioneer of Bengal Renaissance, the writer of BarnaParichaya and the great social reformer Pandit Ishwar Chandra Bandopadhyay, commonly known as Vidyasagar was born on 26th September,1820. It's his ancestral house. To commemorate his great memory , this. Memorial House was inaugurated on 17th March,1940 after an auspicious meeting presided by the then District Magistrate of Midnapore Benoy Ranjan Sen and Chief Guest was eminent journalist and writer Ramananda Chattopadhyay. There are various items used by Vidyasagar including his book nicely maintained and displayed for public. Various types of drawings, paintings pictures, statues etc. displayed in the lawn and rooms in remembering his important life history. The particular place where Vidyasagar was born marked here and people may pay respect to him. Excellent Statue of Vidyasagar also erected in front of the entrance and inside the room. An outstanding statue of child Vidyasagar in the lap his mother is simply mind-blowing. Here is a Caretaker, who is a nice person and may be consulted, if needed and photos, an excellent short book about Vidyasagar etc. available here and may be purchased after remitting necessary charges. The place is completely mesmerized me. Indeed a great job done by the concerned committee. It's timing is from 11 AM to 6 PM. No entry fee. Thursday is closed. Humble tribute to Vidyasagar.

Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, the father of Bengali prose and a prominent educationist and pioneer scholar of women's awakening, was born in Birsingh village of West Midnipur district. His birthplace is now known as Vidyasagar Smriti Mandir. Various things used by him are preserved here. There is a beautiful garden and five well-kept galleries.
