It's a historical place in West Midnapore district. Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, who is considered as the social reformer and one of the makers of modern Bengal, was born in this house in 1820 AD. The house has now been converted into a museum which houses many paintings, sculptures and artefacts used by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Various incidents of his life are depicted on the wall of the museum. This place in Birsingha village is located at a distance of 5 km from Ghatal Khirpai road, visiting hours are from 11 AM to 6 PM.
The modern Bengali language which we use today, is the contribution of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, who was born here. He brought mass printing in West Bengal. Betal panchabinsati, Mahabharat etc was mass printed in his printing press in Kolkata.
He was a social reformer, a staunch lover of his mother, epitome of morality and truly a sea of knowledge. He had high self esteem and never sold his character. Even Britishers used to fear him for his harsh truth speaking nature. He was fearless and courageous. He never befriended cowardice and always followed the path of truth and morality. He was the master mind of today's primary education system.
He was a member of brahmo samaj. He was a very benevolent donor and he helped Michael Madhusudan Dutta when he was abroad.
I pray my humble obesences to Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar who believed in para brahman.
Hare krishna

I'm honoured to go the very place where pandit Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar was born. We all read about him in our textbooks, but seeing the very place, the environment, the people there, are surreal. Loved the tour, loved the people there, and the nature. Just Amazing.
Every bengali people should visit this place to see where our great Vidyasagar was born. Good preservation of memories and artifacts. Great work.
It was a nice experience, there is no charges or tickets to visit the place and I will suggest visiting on a normal weekday to avoid heavy crowd.
Pandit Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar was born in Virsingh village, the privileged son of Thakurdas Bandyopadhyay. He was a scholar with special skill in Sanskrit language. Among the books written by him, caste identity is probably discussed etc. Many of the items used by him are preserved in the memorial room in Bir Singh village. Every year on the first day of January, a fair is held to celebrate Vidyasagar Mahashay.
Nice peaceful place.well decoration inside the premises. Four wheeler parking is available beside the premises. Clean atmosphere, far from city chaos.... primary school and high school are also there...Great place for a weekend trip. Thursday is closed all day....
