Viceregal Lodge - Historical place museum in Shimla - Shimla, India

Absolutely beautiful garden This is a fantastic walk from Mall Road, that if walking fast, you can get there in about 45 minutes. I would not suggest the walk for anyone that has mobility issues due to the steep inclines at times but man is it absolutely gorgeous the whole entire time. A great place to take dates, or just go to sit and relax in the sun. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous and Fantastic for photos. Plus just 50 rupee (2023) to get in isnt bad.

An exquisite piece of British Architecture in stone and wood. The Stone facades, and the wooden interiors are embellished richly without any room for complaint. There are several artifacts and memorabilia on display too. But only a portion of the ground floor is open to public, and the rest is off-limits. The first floor is entirely for scholars and students.

Built by British, used to be summer home for Indian President and now a center for advanced studies for few lucky. One of the must visit places in Shimla which has a rich history, is very beautiful and well maintained. There is a 15 min guided tour inside the Lodge every 30 min and each slot has limited quota. No photography is allowed inside the Lodge. Last slot is at 4.30PM as this place closes at 5PM. Guided tour along with access to outer area and botanical garden is charged 100/- for adults and 50/- for kids. If not interested in tour, visitors can pay 30/- for entrance. Recommend to have the guided tour at least once to witness the beauty of this marvellous wooden architecture from inside and know it's history. Vehicles can drop visitors at the fire station near this Lodge and go back to parking area below. Entrance tickets are bought at this fire station which is also used as a book stall and snacks area. Washrooms are behind this fire station.

It's a must visit place in shimla , the wood work inside is amazing and tour guide is also available with good knowledge of the palace. Photography is not allowed inside the premises. History: * Viceregal Lodge which is also known as Rashtrapati Niwas. * It was formerly the residence of the British Viceroy of India. * It has some of the most ancient articles and photographs going back to the times of the British rule in India. * The Rashtrapati Niwas Estate was transferred to the Ministry of Education to be handed over to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study.

If you are in shimla this place is a must visit, the cost of the ticket is 30rs for Indian nationals and 50 for foreigners and if you want a tour from inside its 100rs for Indians and 500rs for foreign nationals, in our case we did the lawn and sightseeing from outside only and i must say each and every penny was worth it, the architecture is amazing and the lawn is lush green beautifully maintained, if you have a car or a bike you can easily reach there because buses are not allowed near the viceregal lodge and taxi's cost almost 300rs which i feel like is way too much so if you are near old bus stand just walk for few mins and enjoy hence i will highly recommend this place in your shimla iteanrry.

Worth visiting when in Shimla. Loved this place. Only 30 rupees charged to explore the lawn and garden. And 100 rupees for a tour inside. The weather was beautiful in June end we were with clouds all over. The garden could've been maintained a bit. The local cab/taxi/bus will drop you on main gate. From there you've to walk till the lodge which was the best part for us. The path is too peaceful and clean. If you hire private taxi or go by own vehicle then you can go till the lodge and oay parking charges.

The place is awesome to visit. If you are staying nearby victory tunnel or Old bus stand shimla, you can directly walk ad visit the place. You cannot get any bus or local vehicle to travel or you have to book a cab which will cost you approx Rs500 from old bus stand shimla. It is about 2.5KMs from victory tunnel. The site opens at 10:30AM and closes at 5PM. We were two people so we were charged Rs 200 for entry and guided tour inside the monument. The view of this place is amazing from outside and inside both. You are not allowed to take photos inside but you can click pictures from outside.
