Fort is a very big and 90% area in ruins and deserted condition, peaceful location with inherent natural beauty. it's very rich in history it was part of the Portuguese colony, and influence can be seen in construction. Do read about fort and check YouTube videos before visiting so you can appreciate its existence.

The place is historical. And the view from the place is just awesome. You can visit there by bus, auto or with your personal vehicle. You can go inside the fort also. The entrance of the fort is nice. There is a church as well inside the fort. First time I visited. And I was just shocked and at the same time happy to see this historical view.

While the fort in its entirety is spread across a vast area, only a few structures were easily approachable. The route to some were inaccessible due to muddy paths, paths fully submerged in water, overgrown vegetation etc. It definitely was a bad idea to visit this place during the monsoon season. Will definitely visit again and cover the entire area when the place dries up.

Vasai fort is believed to be from 1200 AD....but Portuguese people developed it from 1500AD till approx 1723 when Chimaji Appa a Peshwa warrior fought and won it. There were complaints against Portugese regime from locals on various fronts. The fort is informed to be spread over 100 acres of land... about 50 km north of Mumbai located in quaint outskirts of Vasai town. There is huge and tall fort wall surrounding with approx 10 watch towers or buruj as called in Marathi.... Since it was Portugese regime they had municipal corporation building a jail, administrative buildings many churches are in ruins in present day. Many of the buildings have walls as high as fifty feet indicate how magnificent it must have been some four hundred years ago! After Portugese were expelled and British took over in1818 not much attention was paid for upkeep.... Since the construction was sturdy robust and methodical without any shortcut it still talls stand against the nature wind, sea, rain and even human encroachment. As per government of India this is a protected monument but after some repairs the restoration seems to be stopped which is evident from the large greenery bushes and trees which are fully grown in the Structure. This fort is on the ground....no climbing or mountain to concur, if you have a two wheeler it would be easy to roam around as walking on foot takes approximately two hours. ASI has a small office there but there are no boards or direction arrows to indicate which building is where and what's the significance of it.....sad state of affairs...same is the condition of korlai and fort which was under Portugese ruling.

One of the best place i ever visited. Greatest piece of structure. Element monument which is now outdated but you can imagine how beautifully and strongly it was built at that time. Lake & well inside the for is beautiful.it is spread in huge area includes 2 ancient temples refereeld by peshwa. Local authority need to keep an eye on this masterpiece as local people's and visitors are damaging this place. Full of garbages ,debris, wrappers . People's having food there and leaving packaging wrappers behind .Some are used to wash their clothes as there was multiple soap, govt and debris left behind. Municipality and govt authority along with the local politicians need to look at this,as it belongs to the era of Portuguese ,peshwa . Since parts of the fort are still standing and leaving the mark behind . Atleast we can keep its own beauty and dignity remained.
