Hindu temple converted to a mosque 400 years ago when hindu population decreased and went to Indian mainland for better life , the pillars and base of the "mosque" are proof of this , the pillars are carved with hindu symbols like lotus and shankh and also many faces are there on the base of the masjid which are forbidden in Islam ... If excavation is done I am 100% sure there will be idols burried deep under the sandy soil of the island

Good to see crystal clear water of Sea, Greenish blue water. Exotic Marine life. White sand beach. Place is Good. Super store, school and resort were there. Only Island in lakshadweep in which Airport and school is located.

There are about 30+ Mosques in Kavaratti but Ujra Mosque is the oldest, perhaps biggest one and definitely the most beautiful one. One has to climb a few steps to enter into the mosque. Mosque is said to be about 300 years old. Its one piece wooden carving is awesome and intact even after so many years. Environment inside mosque is calm.
In a year, about three times, mosque management arrange free food to all, everyone staying in Kavaratti are invited; however no formal invitation is sent to any one.
Outside surrounding needs better cleanliness. Mosque has got a pond which used to get natural water quality of which is like mineral water.
