Triveni" means "three rivers" while "Sangam" means "confluence" in English. Triveni Sangam is the confluence of three rivers. The Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad) is the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. It is a holy bathing place for Hindus. Bathing in the Triveni Sangam is believed to wash away all the sins of mankind. Every 12 years this place conducts "Kumbha Mela" on the banks of Triveni Sangam & every 6 years "Ard Kumbh". Kumbh is a festival celebrating the faith of drops of nectar that fell here while being carried away by the god after the churning of the sea. "Playwright Kalidasa describes the confluence of the blue waters of the Ganges and the Yamuna as if they were intertwined like a string of pearls and sapphires or a garland of white and blue lotuses. Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj is the confluence of three rivers namely Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. Of these three rivers, the Saraswati is invisible and flows underground and joins the other two rivers from below. The muddy, pale-yellow and mica-laden and stagnant waters of the Ganges merge with the mighty, blue waters of the Yamuna.. The Ganges is only 4 feet deep, and the Yamuna is 40 feet deep during the annual flood here, where the confluence can be seen. Sangam or Sangam is a tirthasthan or shrine. Bathing here not only washes away sins but also frees you from the cycle of birth and death. A shrine is a ford; The tirthasthanam allows believers to cross the river of consciousness from the earthly realm to divinity and immortality. It is known as Sangama Raju or Prayagraj.

Confluence of ganga yamuna and Saraswati. You can take bath , perform pujas in the banks and simply enjoy a boat ride in the Ganges . Only place you can see Saraswati river . Must visit place . You can take autos or private car once you reach Allahabad station. Worth visiting this place mainly during magh festival. For boat rides they ask for hefty amount from tourist and always bargain even 200 for 4 person (updating as in Nov 23) is enough to visit the sangam points. Boat rides after 5:30 -6pm is not allowed . Not sure about the rules though . Try to visit before evening . Easy available shared autos are available . Always recommend to bargain .

Boat wala demands as per their wish there is no organised way. I doubt they really take to sangam i felt i was still on the yamuna ji. Everything is money.

It takes 1 & 1/2 hour to reach this place through kashi. Boat rides are also available. But we have to sit with legs folded as the boats here do not have foot rest compartments. Might be a bit difficult for people's. There are no changing rooms

Having recently visited this remarkable place, I am compelled to share my extraordinary experience and recommend it to all. It takes 1 & 1/2 hour to reach this place through kashi. Boat rides are also available. But we have to sit with legs folded as the boats here do not have foot rest compartments. Might be a bit difficult for people with orthopedic problems. The boat ride costs 1400. There are no changing rooms.
