On November 18th, 2023, we explored a monastery located 25 kms from Leh city.
Extremely peaceful & serene monastery. It features multiple levels with serene prayer halls, but be prepared for a climb up steep stairs.
As one of the big monasteries in Leh, it attracts many visitors. If you're genuinely interested in experiencing its beauty, I recommend visiting when it's less crowded to explore it peacefully. It stands as a marvel of peace and beauty, and we had the opportunity to meet with young lamas during our visit.
The view from the top is truly fantastic, and the avenue leading to the monastery adds to the overall charm of the experience.
We visited Thiksey Monastery in the month of October. It offers a breathtaking views of the Ladakh landscape. The magnificent architecture and serene ambiance is breathtaking. The intricate artwork and the sound of prayer flags fluttering in the wind make it a must-visit cultural gem.
Magnifique monastere a decouvrir !
It's a positive experience. I meditated along with the monks, the peace, serenity, and vibe is calming. There are no stringent rules. They have a resort to stay , cafe and parking. The monestry is a surreal experience. One must visit, it's a 30 min drive from Leh city.
Mesmerizing view with snow clad mountains in front of you. The place gets plenty of sunlight and has sitting arrangements as well so you can just sit and enjoy the view.
Washroom is available and the place has a small shop where you can purchase some items as mementos.
Entry ticket is 50 rupees per head.
Plenty of parking is available and you have to walk a lil bit in order to reach the temple.
Thiksey Monastery is a Buddhist monastery situated at Leh city of Ladakh. Its a huge structure on the hill top. Neat and clean place. Surrounding views are awesome. An entry fee is there. A restaurant in it's premises is also present.
Incredible 600 year old Buddhist monastery
This has been my personal favorite monastery that I have visited here in India with all the B-E-A-utiful art clashing with the rugged views of the surrounding Himalayas
They began the construction here back in the 1400's... Meanwhile here we are all these centuries later basking in the glory
Hearing the chants and taking it all in... There is definitely some fantastic energy in this magical place
Vibrant colors & peaceful setup. One should go there with enough time in hand to spend here... The feeling is very peaceful here. A must visit place in Leh. The parking is very close to the main gate so no hassle walking ths height but if you want to reach there walking, there's a different route with steps all the way from main road to the monastery.
