Have visited this a couple of times, and got to know about this place through a recommendation by a friend. The Ghee Roast Masala Dosa is my staple for this establishment. The variety of chutneys that come with the dosa are unique and tasty. The filter coffee is good and well balanced in sweetness. This mess is small and located on the second floor in the building with the kitchen being on the first floor so seating can be an issue especially on weekends. There is no lift for customers and climbing the steep stairs can be an issue for someone with leg and foot ailments. The mess is occupied from early in the morning by people who swear by it. The service is inoffensive and moderately fast. The mess is located in a crowded place in Rasta Peth so parking situation needs to be looked at beforehand in order to avoid hassles. Overall, a good place for tasty South Indian breakfast and meal.

It is incredible how food changes from place to place in India. Today you can get food from across India near you. I am a fan of South Indian food, especially when it is simple and authentic (may be because of my love for rice). South Indian Mess is one of my favourite. Located in Rasta Peth in Pune, it serves authentic Tamilian food. The best part of this place is, they have concentrated on food and not other frills. Its simple as it gets. Having the kitchen and dining are in one single room, gives it a homely feel. They generously serve you which also makes it homely. Rasam, Vada, Sambar and Rice is epic and my favourite. Try it for your self.

It was a good place to have south Indian meals. But now management have changed. Price of meals is 120/- rs. They have feast meals on Sunday and on festival day which is 160/- rs. You get other things also like idli, dosa etc. Taste is ok has off now but not like before. Service has come down drastically. Can be visited occasionally.

Great place to have South Indian food . In snacks time you should try idali vada, Utthapa, Dosa and pongal. Lunch time should try rice plate Nice homemade food and homie feeling

The food is amazing. But you have to go early at least 1 pm for lunch on Sundays. Otherwise, it will be finished by 2 pm.

Best place to have rice plate there papad taste is very nice and mouthwatering loved it unlimited thali is best also Idali and vada is delicious rassam rice must try here staff is also polite.

Wholesome, authentic, fresh south indian iyer brahmin sytle cuisine served lovingly by the owner on steel plates. Seating is basic with laminated tables and plastic chairs. You get all classes of people dining here and also for takeaways. The owner does all things from cleaning tables and serving food to collecting the money. The staff are half as attentive. The ambience is super basic and could be improved with small investments. Kitchen is a floor below and could be kept more neatly and cleanly. For a one man show the show is pretty good. If you try getting pushy, the affable owner gently pleads you to back off, since he is already suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. You can't but smile.. Go for the authenticity, wholesomeness and simple sincerity of the offerring. Parking can be found on Sundays other days is a nightmare. Ah, one last thing - 3rd Sundays are for special meals with an extra sweet and avial.
