FROM SIRKAZI BUS STAND ONLY 500 METRES..

It is one of the oldest Lord shiva temple. In this temple the Lord shiva is in human body form in large statue. And highlight of the temple is the shiva and parvathy is in the first floor of the temple it is very beautiful to see them and above them in the second floor nearby vimanam of top Satanathar sanathi is located.. From their you can see the whole temple from the Top view.. From the Top view the temple looks like a boat structure.. And also Thirugnasamandar sanathi also located seperatly and the temple has more than 10 different stories happened at different period of time... Everyone must visit atleast one time.

Sattainathar Temple, Sirkazhi The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Thevaram and is classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. This temple is an ancient temple .This temple is an ancient temple complex with three different Shiva Shrines. The Brahmapureeswarar shrine is housed in the lower level belonging to later chola period . The first level houses Periya Nayakar with Periyanayaki on Thoni, hence the name Thoniappar. Sattainathar/Vaduganathar is also housed here. The main temple of Thoniappar is on first floor with no dieties on the ground floor this type of temple is called "Maadakovil" as mentioned by Thirunavukarasar in Devaram Hymns Sattanathar (Abhathottarana Murthy) a form of Shiva present at Griva Koshta of the temple . Sattanathar subdued the Ego of Trivikrama / Vamana and wore it as his attire and held his Spine as his Danda. Brahmma Pureeswarar is called as Thirukazhumalamudaiyar, Thoniappar as Thiruthonipuramudaiyar, Ammai as Periya Nachiyar, Thiru Gnanasambandar Peruman as Aludaya Pillaiyar The temple was built during early Chozhas / Pallava Period. The temple has a lot of inscriptions which include Kulothunga Chozha -III (ARE 124 of 1896; SII, V, no. 989) and Rajadhiraja-II. The temple was further expanded during Latter Chozhas Kulothunga-I, II, III and Vikrama Chozha. The inscriptions mainly speak about donation of Lands, cattle for burning perpetual lamps, celebrations and poojas. As per the inscriptions Lord Shiva was called as Tirut-Tonipuram Udaiya Nayanar

A padal Petra sthalm. Sambanthar got his milk (gynam) from Ambal near this temple pond. A very big temple. Very very old temple also. Shiva is in a Lingam and also full human body in this temple. Like Madurai Meenakshi temple Shiva and Devi have separate sanathi. Main attraction is Shiva and Parvati in a very big sculpture in a small hill like Perumal behind main Shivaling temple. Here Shiva is not in Linga position. Above this temple viman (gopuram) Sattainathar sanathi, we can from side position. For visit Rs.5 ticket is to be purchased for each member. There is many many stories on this temple. It is best to get sthala purnam and read that. I already visit this temple before two years. Now this temple totally renovated and looks like a new temple. It's the right time to visit this temple.
