One must visit this temple before visiting the main temple... " This temple is near the Pushkarini. AS per the legends the Tirumala Hills belongs to Lord Varaha Swamy and when Lord Balaji wanted to settle on Tirumala Hills, he obtained permission from Lord Varahaswamy. In turn Lord Venkateswara Swamy pledged that all his devotees will visit lord Varaha before visiting him (lord venkateswara swamy). Hence it is the duly/custom of all the pilgrims to have a darshan of Lord Varahaswamy before going for darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy. Generally everybody will be in a hurry to have a darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy. But we should follow the order"

The Sri Varahaswamy Temple, also called Bhu Varahaswamy Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Varaha, situated at hill town of Tirumala in Tirupati, located in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh state, India. The temple is situated on the northern premises of Venkateshvara Temple, Tirumala, on north west corner of Swami Pushkarini. This temple is believed to be older than the Venkateshvara shrine. As per the regional legend, after saving the earth from the asura Hiranyaksha, Vishnu's boar avatar Varaha stayed on this hill on the northern bank of Swami Pushkarini. Hence Tirumala Hills is also referred to as Adi Varaha Kshetra.[2] In the beginning of the present Yuga Kali Yuga, Varaha donated land to another form of Vishnu - Venkateshvara on his request. As a gratitude, Venkateshvara offered the right of first bell, puja and naivedyam (food offering) to Varaha before they were offered to him. This is being followed as a tradition even today. Devotees are prescribed to have darshana ("sight") of Varaha before Venkateshvara. It is believed that the pilgrimage to Tirumala will not be complete without having a darshana of Varaha. The temple was renovated by Pedda Tirumalacharya in the year 1535 CE.

Shri Varaha Swamy Temple : According to the Brahmapurana, it is imperative for the pilgrims to pay a visit to Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy before visiting Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. It is Lord Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy who granted land to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy on his request to reside in the sacred Seven Hills. As a thanks giving gesture, Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy had gifted the privilege of first darshan and first naivedyam to Lord Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy.

This is an ancient and a small temple built for the deity Bhuvarahaswamy who is the reigning deity of Tirumala where Sri Srinivasa decides to come and stay to bless his Bhakthas. As such the tradition is before visiting Srinivasa one must have darshan of Bhuvarahaswamy. This is very close to Sri Vari temple.

Varahaswami temple is dedicated to Varaha, the 3rd incarnation of Vishnu. Lord Vishnu took the Boar avatar to rescue Bhu Devi from the demon Hiranyaksha. This temple is situated on the banks of Pushkarini, to the north of Lord Venkateshwara temple Tirumala Hills was initially Adi Varaha Kshetra. Varaha Swami granted land to Venkateswara Swamy to reside in the sacred Seven Hills. As a gratitude Naivedyam will be first offered to Varaha swamy & then to Sri Venkateswara swamy. And also devotees should first worship Varaha swamy & then visit Lord Venkateswara. Here there is a pillar called 'Vallabha Pillar'. Sri Varaha Swami stands with His leg upraised and holds Bhu Devi in his arms in this temple.
