Sherabling Monastery - Monastery in Keori - Kangra, India

A very peaceful monastery, must visit when in Bir. It also houses an institute for Buddhist studies. You can visit the monastery at anytime during the day. They have a guest house as well as a small cafe that serves the most amazing momos and tomato soup.

You will really experience a new world here. Away from traffic hassle and commercialization, it is a perfect place to visit. As usual, this Monastery is too clean with people engaged in their daily routine activities. It's a township where you would find residence, schools, temple, restaurants etc. I would a prefer a half day visit to explore and experience their tradition. Pro Tip: Visit in morning as it would be hectic to roam in broad sunlight.

The Paplung Sherabling Monastery is beautiful and serene place to visit if you are in or around Bir. Nestled amidst the dense forests. Infrastructure is impressive. There is so much positivity around. It was just 7-8 kms from my Hostel so we decided to visit it in afternoon. It was not crowded at all. You park your vehicle at security check post, enter your details and walk down for 500m to reach main prayer hall. There are 2 ways to reach, one from Keori Village in Bir and second from Baijnath. Don't rely on google maps, ask locals for directions. You must visit the Tibetan Restaurant and souvenir shop located near 8 stupas. It helps them run their livelihood and maintaining the place. I liked the food and bought a Tibetan flag. There is a guest house also priced at 950 INR which is very well located. There are many retreat centres, residential buildings and monastery is very well spread. You will be very fortunate if you reach there at time of prayers which happens at 10:30 AM as per a monk. One of the beautiful monastery and totally worth the visit. It is located near Baijnath temple about 8KM away from it.This place is less traveled place by Indian tourists, it is very disciplined and well maintained monestry... even small kids to senior monks of this place doesn't effected with the outsiders, they are completely concentrated on their works and routine duties. Cool and silent place.

We visited Bir during off season so in general the crowd was lesser everywhere and same here at the monastery. We took the Baijnath route and it's a 5min walk from the parking. The main place is a bit hidden and ar first we were a bit confused if we were in the right place. A local helped us out with the route. The place is peaceful. The art and colours on the walls, ceiling pops out. It looks really beautiful.

Very peaceful and quite, it is secluded in nature. You get to see the schools of monks. Hinayana Buddhism is followed here. The temple is very beautiful.

Shearling Monastery is an absolute gem! My recent visit left me in awe of the serene beauty and spiritual atmosphere that envelops this sacred place. The architecture is stunning, with intricate details that showcase the craftsmanship of a bygone era. The monks and staff at Shearling Monastery are incredibly welcoming and hospitable. Their dedication to preserving the spiritual traditions is evident in the warmth with which they greet visitors and share their knowledge. I had the privilege of participating in a meditation session, and it was a truly transformative experience.
