Sacred Heart Cathedral Church - Church in Asansol - Paschim Bardhaman, India

A beautiful church building with inspiring spires in the heart of Asansol is a holy place for the devouts and a marvelous piece of architecture, although the area around is very noisy but once you are inside the church the noise just fades out and there is so much peace.

This church is one of the oldest churches in the city of Asansol. It is located at Hutton Road More , opposite to Asansol Bus stand. This is a place of serenity and peace.

Very nice church...must visit in Christmas to see the decoration..its the largest church in Asansol and it in the Asansol city bus stand area...so need to ride any other vehicle..you just need to be in the Asansol city bus stand area and its just a 1 min walk there...its generally very solitary but in Christmas its full of diverse people of all religions..

Sacred Heart Church in Asansol was built in1875 by the British Railway Company which was in charge of the main Howrah Delhi railway line. After independence when the railway division merged with Indian Railways, the church's ownership rights were handed over to the Kolkata Archdiocese. When Burdwan Diocese was formed later Sacred Heart Church came under the newly formed Diocese and became its Cathedral. Sacred Heart Church was built using British bricks and special imports of British bricks were permitted for this purpose. This colonial style red coloured church is a major praying centre for the Catholics of Asansol and also attracts many tourists because of its elegance. On Sundays and special occasions hundreds of people visit this church. The beautifully made Grotto of 'Our Lady of Lourdes' is an added attraction here.
