Good - old place - very peaceful - you can literally sit at a corner and meditate and have your own time no one will disturb you. Bad - who charges Rs100 for carrying mobile - to many wires hanging around - needs to be cleaned and maintained once a week.

The Saavira Kambada Temple in Mudbidri, Karnataka, India, is a famous Jain temple known for its stunning architecture with a thousand beautifully carved pillars. Tourists and pilgrims visit this temple because of its incredible design and religious importance. It's like a work of art and a special place for the Jain community. People make sure to take care of this ancient temple to preserve its history and beauty. It was established in 1430 AD and they have crafted it beautifully. It's a masterpiece of engineering. Don't expect much. Entry fee was 10 rupees (Not sure). The travelling here from Mulki is itself a great journey. It takes through a lush greenery and hill area and its really a soothing journey. How to travel?? Nearest bus stop is Mudbidri. Those who are coming from Surathkal can take bus to Kinnigoli to Mudbidri or may be from Mulki to Mudbidri. Last bus from Mudbidri to Kinnigoli is around 6:30 PM in the evening, which comes to kinnigoli (It takes around 1 hour travelling time). And last bus from kinnigoli to Surathkal is around 7:25 (Nandani bus). I would definitely recommend this place to see the beauty. Namaskar TEJASNHU

At first glance you may feel this is some Hindu temple constructed in Kerala/South canara architecture. Walkable distance from Moodbidre bus stand somewhat inside road not visible easily, on the way you can find ruins of Chowta's period palace but not allowed inside. Need to pay entry fee for photography be it mobile or other cameras. Was completely silent though when we visited on weekend. Please maintain silence and do not do reels which may hurt Jain religious sentiments. The priest allowed us to do an aarti and also gave some pinch of rice to place it in front of garbhagriha which is an ritual followed in jain religion. Not sure about its construction period since we didn't find any history info in the basadi. Must visit if you love historical places and silence. There are many govt and private buses available from Dharmasthala to Moodbidre around 50km and 1hr journey. Try to take govt bus since private buses are slightly costlier compared to govt buses in DK district.

Saavira Kambada Basadi (Thousand Pillars temple) is the most prominent of the 18 Jain temples in Moodubidiri town, Karnataka. The finest of these is the 15th-century Chandranatha Basadi, also known as the Thousand Pillars Basadi. The uniqueness of this basadi, is that no two pillars are identical. Official name is Tribhuvana Thilaka Chudamani temple. Jain tirthankara Chandraprabha is the main deity in the thousand pillars temple. Moodabidri is known as the "Jain Varanasi" of South India. The basadis or Jain temples are found all over Dakshina Kannada district but the basadis here have greater significance and are considered as most ornate. Along with Venur and Dharmastala Moodabidri is one of the main centres of Jain pilgrimage in Dakshina Kannada. History & Design: The Thousand Pillars Temple was built in the 15th century by local ruler Devaraya Wadiyar. Temple was renovated in 1962. Each of the thousand pillars is dotted with exquisite rock carvings. Interesting fact about the pillars is, it is believed that no two pillars are said to be alike. The perfection of the stone carvings, the symmetry and intrinsic details will leave visitors in awe of this marvelous and detailed architecture. The 50 ft tall monolith Mahasthamba (Giant Pillar), a common feature in all Jain temples, is erected in front of the thousand pillars temple. Thousand Pillars Temple complex has 3 storeys and Seven Mantapas (porch-like structure). The ground floor is built in stones while the first and second floor are wooden structures. The Garbhagriha (inner sanctum) of the temple features an 8 foot tall idol of the 8th Jain Thirthankara Chandranatha Swamy, which is known to be made of the 5 different elements (Pancha Dhatu). Places to visit near 1000 Pillars Temple,Moodbidri: Karkala (20 kms), Udupi (52 kms), Mangaluru (35 kms), Dharmasthala (51 kms) are the other major destinations in coastal Karnataka not too far from Moodubidri. How to reach 1000 Pillars Temple,Moodbidri: Moodubidiri is 351 kms from Bengaluru but just 37kms from Mangaluru which has the nearest airport and railway station. Frequent local buses are available to reach Moodubidri from Mangaluru city. Places to stay near 1000 Pillars Temple,Moodbidri: Multiple budget and mid range hotels are available in Moodbidri town. It's a Jain temple (basadi). As the name suggests it's a temple with 1000 pillars (of course I didn't count). Inside the temple, you can also see Mahavira. You will not be able to in to the inner sanctum but go close enough. (Refer to my photo to know what I mean here) It's a peaceful place if you plan to drop by on your way to wherever you are going. I was on my way to Mangalore from Bangalore via this route, and we weren't disappointed at all. There's an entry fee to be paid (15rs per person if am not wrong). If you want to take photographs inside the premises, you have to pay another 100rs. It's not a waste of your money coz you get to click some cool IG worthy shots of the temple as well as yourself. The temple itself is located slightly inside the city (not by the main road).
