Ramalingeswarar Temple - 108 sivalayam - Hindu temple in Papanasam - Thanjavur, India

We can worship 107 lingas in one temple. It's told that this Ramalingeswarar was worshipped by Rama. The 108th lingam situated by the side of this temple which is said that it was worshipped by Hanuman. An arch welcomes you on Kumbakonam-Thanjavur road. A beautiful pond is there opposite to this temple. Parking area available with parking charges. Overall a good experience.Annadhanam is good.

Papanasam "Destruction of Sins" It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva in this temple would remove all sins. This temple was build by Lord Rama and the 108 Shiva lingas were installed by him.Lord Ramalingaswami is in the main shrine. On a hall (Mandap) there are 106 Shiva Lingas in 3 rows.other significance of the temple is that Kamadenu the divine cow has an equal place with Nandhi the bull vehicle of Lord Shriva before His shrine. The Lord installed 107 Shivalingas and asked Sri Anjaneya to bring one from Kasi thus making the total 108. Lord Rama, after rescuing Sita, performed Shiva Puja in Rameswaram to cleanse Himself of sins that befell on Him in the war killings. While returning to Ayodhya from there, Lord Rama felt that the sins of killing Kara and Dooshana in Janasthanam were following Him. The main Linga was named Ramalingaswami and the one brought by Sri Anjaneya was named Hanumantha Linga.A shrine was built for Mother Parvadhavardhini later. Its very near to HH Sri Sri Ravi shankar ji birth place.

Very nice temple with 108 Shivalings. Legend says Shri Ram worshipped here after installing 108 Shivalings to ward off Brammahathi dosh. The name Papanasam means absolved from sin.There is an entry ticket for seeing the shivalings. Nominal fee of Rs.5 per adult.

Temple was good, but shop before the temple demanded to pay for parking. Parking board was kept at the roadside and they demanded to pay charges for that. How come they can ask for amount for government laid roads by just keeping parking Bill boards alone. ???

Papanasam means a place for our sin will go away. Sriramar constructed 108 Shiva linga here by his hands for brhma doshi nivarthi. The temple located center of the city. Temple maintenance good. There is separate shrine for Lord consort Parvati and Anumamth lingam

Beautiful Shiva Temple and really blessed to visit here. If you are following Google Maps, it will take you closer to the temple but not exact location. The temple entrance is encroached by buildings and there is no proper signage to reach the temple. We missed the temple twice and has to slow down and inquire to spot it. So, when you are near, keep inquiring. 108 siva Lingas are there in this temple. 1. Main Moorthy 2. Another Linga in the backside of the temple 3 to 108 are in one place inside an enclosure. They allow you inside for a small price 10rs. You can circumbulate around the 106 Lingas. They are small, big and different sizes. Amazing experience to see that many Lingas in one place. Never knew about this place before visting. Must visit if you are near Trichy or Kumbakonam or Tanjore.

There is a paid parking space available near the temple., don't park near the road, even if you part we have to pay, calm and good temple.
