Peshwe Museum - Featured Reviews (1060)
The place has a vast and varied information regarding the lineage of Peshwas and Maratha dynasty. It also has artefacts that were being used in the late medieval period. Also includes information regarding many people who contributed in nurturing the Maratha Confederacy. But the Museum is poorly maintained with lack of proper lighting and labelling.
There are a lot of artifacts from maratha period but needs to be maintained well also need to have description in English to cater to the public outside Maharashtra. It's situated right at the top of parvati hill you can drive up there if need from back or walk up the stairs thru the front
Best place in pune to see the history and glory in physical form.
Place is really good but it has very low maintenance. It should be more clean and tidy as it is a historical place. The atmosphere is pleasant.
The place has a vast and varied information regarding the lineage of Peshwas and Maratha dynasty. It also has artefacts that were being used in the late medieval period. Also includes information regarding lot many people who contributed in nurturing the Maratha Confederacy. But the Museum is poorly maintained with lack of proper lighting and labelling. Labels used are of probably 40 years old and have not been changed. So, it fails to put up an overall impact on people about the greatness of the Confederacy.
Pune and the Peshwas have a significant relevance from the 1700s to 1818. The city of Pune speaks of the legacy of the Peshwa raj in every nook and corner. Pune was under the protection of the Peshwas until the death of Bajirao II and the Peshwa Museum on Parvati Hill is a gem that will make you revisit the Peshwa Era. Read on to know more about what makes this museum special. The Peshwa museum is dedicated to the legacy and heritage of the Peshwa dynasty. Situated on Parvati Hill, the museum is housed in a section of the Peshwa Palace built in 1795 by Nanasaheb Peshwa. A section of this palace has now been converted into the Peshwa Museum. The museum houses many artefacts and collectives of the Peshwa era sourced from various Peshwa Mansions. The collectives include everything related to the Peshwa rulers, from weapons, clothes, jewellery, sword, a bathing tub, utensils, drums, matkas, and riding attire to street lamp posts, locks, furniture, musical instruments, and riding attire used by royalty. You will find maps, a Peshwa family tree as well as paintings of imminent Maratha leaders like Nanasaheb Peshwa, Chimaji Appa, Bajirao Peshwa, Mastani, and Balaji Vishwanath. There is a box full of coins from the Mughal, Peshwa and British Era that will excite coin lovers and collectors. The coins are sourced from the Peshwa, Mughal and British periods and are quite rare and highly valued. You will also find medieval manuscripts related to the Peshwas, as well as some old and rare photographs of Pune city as well. Located right beside the museum is the Samadhi of Shrimant Nanasaheb Peshwa that pays homage to his contribution to the Peshwa raj. The museum is a walk through the glorious years of art, culture and civilisation that once was part of Pune during the Peshwa Era. It is an unforgettable experience that depicts the strength, patriotism and passion that the Peshwa's lived with. A visit to this museum will not only reconnect you to Pune's glorious, remarkable history but will also make you feel extremely proud of amche Pune! Parvati Hill is a hillock in Pune, India. The hillock rises to 2,100 feet above sea level. Atop the hillock is the Parvati Temple, one of the most scenic locations in Pune. The temple is the oldest heritage structure in Pune and was built during the rule of the Peshwa dynasty. Parking is available. Mostly crowded in weekends. Also having 1 small Peshawa museum and two temples since 1749.
