Patiala Ki Rao Reserved Forest - Nature preserve in Chandigarh - Chandigarh, India

Entry is restricted to this forest and we got a permission only under special circumstances. The forest is small, but dense, especially in monsoons. There was hardly place to put your foot down. Even the paths used by forest guards and villagers were not visible. Deep inside, it was dark and very humid. There are multitudes of birds and animals to be seen. I was lucky to see a baby python and a huge monitor lizard. Peacocks are in plenty. The variety of birds is amazing. A bird enthusiast would find this place a delight. In winters, Neelgai and deer also frequent this forest. There is a lake on the edge of the forest which adds to the charm.

There Rao is abandoned & some place them so close dhabas,shops market of dhanas and botanical garden there so near them at sarangpur.These Rao has flow regularly drain water of houses & colonies and raining water comes only raining season.There both side row of lots trees on them (tree) live some specious bird and monkeys also u see some people take them banana, biscuits & other eatable things.Thanku

This is a forest reserve situated just next yo PGI Chandigarh. You can see some animal like deer and neel gay in this. This is a dense forest. Open all the seven days of week. No entry fee required. You can see a beautiful kali mata mandir in dense forest. This is perfect place to spend your evening. You can bring your kids here.

It's such a beautiful lake. If you are looking for peace then must visit it. It has floating solar pannel, fountain and so many species of birds. Also there are so many ducks.

Was amazing experience.. But still worried as people are spoiling this place with plastic garbage and beer bottles. People have to be more careful and responsible.

There is famous Kali Mata Mandir (Hindu Goddess: Goddess of Time, Creation, Destruction and Power ). The mandir has idols of Lord Shiva, Baba Bhairov Nath, Shani Dev and few others as well. There is Khwaja Peer Dargah inside the mandir. The status of Kali Mata Mandir is shown lying down on ground. It is believed that decades back Goddess has herself indicated a near by reciding Madras Community to establish a place for her in this area. The mandir is surrounded by a forest; green and wild. Lots of snakes and even other animals like deer, monkeys can be spotted in the reserved area.

It's always good to find such place in city like Chandigarh. It's all about greenery and lakes here. Lakes are not in good condition, but to capture some pictures this place is good. You can see peacocks and sambhars(similar to deer) roaming around here.

Patiala ki Rao Reserve Forest Area is just 600 to 700 meters wide and around 2.75 km long land strip just in the west of Punjab University campus, It is a dense, has water bodies and has respectable score of biodiversity taking its proximity with city beautiful. It flanks the entire expanse of Chandigarh Botanical Garden on eastern side
