IGM hospital is one of the three govt. Hospitals in Agartala . The hospital was actually founded in 1873 by the then king of Tripura Maharaja Birchandra Manikya. It was then started with only 30 beds. In the 1903 the king of Tripura Radhakishore Manikya renovated the hospital and upgraded the hospital to a 54 beds for general patients and 10beds for contagious diseases. The hospital was named after the queen Victoria and the name Victoria Memorial Hospital was inscribed in the top of the main building. It is to be noted that Tripura was then a subsidary ally of British India Government without any liability to repayment of central tax share. Therefore, the then British governor general for Bengal Lieutenant John Woodland visited Tripura to inaugurate the Victoria Memorial Hospital in 1903. But unfortunately the Cong-Tujs led state government changed the name of V. M hospital in 1990 and renamed it after the late prime minister of India Smt.Indira Gandhi. Since 1990 the hospital is known as I G M hospital .It stands now as the 2nd largest multispeciality hospital in Tripura .

Today while I wating for my sis in the opd section , there was a rishkaw driver came running inside the block , he was crying and his hand was severely bleeding , I was not sure actually what was happening but he was seeking help from the staff , not a single staff was clearly indicating him . After that one nurse came and told him ...for aid it is mandatory to book a slip from the counter...his was not in that condition of waiting in that long line for slip . But he had no choice rather than it.The way he was suffering was just
