Nellukadai Mariamman temple in Nagapattinam is about 65 Kms from Kumbakonam and about 27 Kms from Thiruvarur. According to legend, Mariamman appeared in the dream of a paddy vendor Periya Naagathammal and asked to construct a temple for her stating that she resides in the nearby snake burrow. Temple constructed at the said place with time came to be known as Nellukadai (Paddy Shop) Mariamman. This Temple is Famous for Chariot and Sedil festival. Lighting a lamp made of dough and offering Rice porridge to the deity are some of customary practices at this temple. Powerful deity believed by devotees as a goddess who answers their prayers and fulfills all their wishes. Temple Timings 7am to 12noon and 5 pm to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. On Sunday the temple is open from 7am to 8 pm.
