Being a Hydro power station, the first thing came to mind is Isolating site and tough reach of site and tough living. But Koldam is one of very few hydro projects in india those are very well connected to outside world. a mere distance of 2.5 km from Delhi-Manali highway and at natural boarders of Distt. Mandi and Bilaspur marked by River Satluj. One can reach to Chandigarh in 4 hrs and delhi in 7 hrs with Volvo bus connectivity available 24hrs, specially at night with lots of options. The Project have installed capacity of 800MW, and a dedicated township for its employees at just 3.5 km away from project. Township has all basic facilities of daily needs, and for variety you can always visit Sundernagar, bilaspur at a reach 30 min from project. Township also has guesthouse facility which can be availed on pre booking basis. This project is certainly a jewel in the crown of NTPC business, because it's the first Hydroelectric Power project of NTPC in India whose main business from its inception was Thermal Based power generation. It gives me immense pleasure while I write about NTPC-KOLDAM as I served at this place for about Five and half years and saw rising it from Dust to a modern engineering Marbel and beside it, unforgettable moments that I spent here with friends.

This dam is built on Satluj River. 18 km from Bilaspur on Chandigarh- Manali Highway near Barmana in Himachal Pradesh.
