Nagarahole national park Safari - Wildlife and safari park in Nalkeri Forest - Kodagu, India

We booked our tickets for the jeep safari through there website and got lunch in a little restaurant just outside the entrance (lovely food for a good price, check it out!). A guide drove up to us and told us when to be at the entrance and it was smooth sailing from then on. We left at exactly 3pm and enjoyed a little over three hours of driving through an amazing forest with loads of wildlife. The guide started slowly and allowed for a lot of time with the first group of elephants we encountered, allowing us to ease into it. It was a great mixture of information about the animals we saw and sitting in silence to enjoy the sounds of nature. We loved it a lot and are very happy with the experience

Wonder safari ride thr driver did not speak too much since loud sounds would make the animals go deeper into the jungle. The safari was about an hour and a half. Be prepared to get close to the elephants.

Although the place is calm and wonderful, the whole process to undertake a safari is excruciating and complicated. There are morning and evening time slots and both have two to three 90 min slots. But getting tickets itself is a pain. Most of the time, the tickets will be sold out if it's a weekend. We luckily got tickets for Jeep, but if you want cheaper prices, you'll have to wait for someone else to accompany you. Else be prepared to shell out a larger amount. And they accept only cash, not even UPI. Once all's settled, the jeeps arrive on time, but more than 90% of times, there's nothing much to see other than the usual fare of deers and elephants. We got lucky to witness a monitor lizard and an Indian giant squirrel. The ride was mostly uneventful. Go for it if you've never been on a safari, else this is not much different from any other experience one would've had before.

Guaranteed sightings of deer herd. Could also see a few langur... road wing the park is narrow but is not broken... a good experience

Nagarahole National Park seems good. The forest guest house are not Maintained well. We had booked a dormitory room for group, it was not great. The toilets are so dirty and unhygienic. Even the stay was not great, it's located in middle of the forest staff settlement and near the road. Not worth. Food: They cook only veg food and no nonveg Food. This is to avoid attracting wildlife. No drinks are allowed. Do not drink while you are staying there. Important notice: If you are planning to go by two wheeler, they don't allow two wheeler inside the national park even if you have booked the forest guesthouse. Only four wheeler are allowed. The safari takes around one hour with not much spotting. For jeep they charge 850 per person. The ride will be tiresome and you will end up in back pain. Not recommended for old people with body pain.

Went for the morning JLR safari. The safari was for three hours. It is one of the best safari I had, not for the animal sighting but the forest is so serene and beautiful. I would highly recommend for those who are interested in enjoying the nature.

Safari Timing: There are 2 slots - 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm each with a 30-person capacity bus Getting a ticket: You have to reach at least 2 hours prior to get in a queue to book the safari tickets. Online tickets are never available. Step 1: You join a queue where the forest official writes down your name and number of members with you Step 2: You join another queue later to pay for the tickets when the official calls your name from earlier list NOTE: The second queue is based on the mix and match done by the officials to fit people in the 2 slots and may not be in the order of the first queue. There was a huge ruckus and chaos because no one knew this process and the forest officials did not explain things clearly to people who had been waiting for more than 2 hours to buy tickets. Wildlife Sighting: Anyone who has done a safari knows that animal sighting is purely luck and there are no assured sightings. We did not see any tiger but we did get to see a herd of 4 wild elephants going to a watering hole to drink some water. That was our highlight. Apart from that deer can be spotted even on the main road that goes through the tiger reserve. We also spotted an eagle and some turtles. Amenities: Ladies toilet was very dirty. And even though it's supposedly a public toilet they charge Rs5. Least they can do is get it cleaned.

The safari trail is so scenic and lakes add its beauty. Both Bolero and canter safaris are available here. Unlike Kabani, Nanachi do not have online booking. This gate is convenient for people coming from kerala and virajpet side. Pls note, wildlife spotting is a matter of luck. Deers are plenty, however spotting big cats like tiger, leopard and black panter is not so common.
