This Lodi period mosque is located within the lush green surroundings of the vast Gulmohar Park, just outside the walls of the Siri Fort. The building is just by the small entrance gate used by morning joggers coming to the park. Located very close to Hauz Khas Market and Green Park metro station.
Tomb of Muhammed Shah Sayyid, Lodi Garden Depicts same location. Tomb of Muhammed Shah Sayyid, Lodi Garden From same collection. Bada Gumbad, Lodi Garden Depicts same location. The Darwesh Shah mosque here is an unimposing one, lying low beneath the flung canopies, exuding an air of quiet dignity, a sublime sobriety.Hauz Khas is an affluent neighborhood in South Delhi
Darwesh Shah Mosque This Lodi period mosque is located within the pretty surroundings of the vast Gulmohar Park, just outside the walls of the Siri Fort. The building is just by the small entrance gate used by morning joggers coming to the park. There is no definite information about who Darwesh Shah was and when the mosque was built. Going by its location close to the Siri Fort walls, it can be assumed that this must have been a significant building. Strictly speaking, this is a wall mosque, with a rectangular enclosure for graves that stands on a high platform. There is a doorway and stairs at the north-east corner that lead to this raised platform. The prayer wall on the west has a set of seven recessed mihrab arches of which the central one is emphasized with raised battlements. This miharab is also slightly projected from outside and is flanked by two tall minarets till the parapet level. Until recently, the mosque was nothing but a mound of rubble but it has been recently conserved to make its original form apparent. MOSQUE OF DARWESH SHAH The monument belongs to the Lodi Period. No particular name is associated with the mosque other than Darwesh which is a title given to a saint or someone who is revered in the community. Its location close to the Siri Fort indicates that this was a significant building. It has a rectangular plan that stands on a raised platform. The wall on the West and East side has 7 recessed arches while the North and South sides have 5 arches. There is a doorway and stairs at the North-East corner which leads to the raised platform. The center of the west side wall that contains the Mihrab is slightly projected from the outside and is flanked by two tall minarets till the parapet level. Visit The Darwesh Shah Ki Masjid Which Is A Mosque Dedicated To An Unknown Saint In Delhi Delhi has a number of structures dedicated to saints and people about whom little or close to nothing is known. A mausoleum here, a mosque there, a pavilion in a derelict corner or a little temple hidden somewhere. Darwesh Shah Ki Masjid (Mosque of Darwesh Shah) is one such structure dedicated to a saint about whom not much has been discovered till date. Park Yourselves Here The mosque is located inside a DDA (Delhi Development Authority) park in South Delhi's Gulmohar Park. If you're travelling by the metro, get off at Green Park Metro Station (on the Yellow Line, Jahangir towards HUDA City Centre). Take the exit that says 'Gautam Nagar' and you'll land up on Balbir Saxena Marg. Cross the road, walk straight towards Siri Fort and the DDA Park will be on your right on Balbir Saxena Marg itself. The mosque lies hidden within the park. Every Monument Has A Story To Tell Legend has it that 600 years ago, Darwesh Shah once asked a group of six boys if they would buy the kingdom of Delhi for 2,000 tankas (currency used in the 12th century by Turkish Sultans). One of the boys, Bahlol Lodhi agreed and was blessed by the saint. His friends made fun of him, at which point Bahlol stated that if the saint's words were true, he would gain a kingdom, and if they weren't, then he did the right thing by giving the saint what he desired. Bahlol Lodhi was the founder of the Lodhi dynasty that ruled over Delhi for a hundred years. The structure is of rectangular shape, built on a raised platform, and belongs to the Lodhi era. Darwesh is a title given to a saint or a revered person of a community. Shah refers to 'king' - the mosque is thus dedicated to a saint (whose name is not known) much respected within the area during the Lodhi period. No Entry Loved this place
It is one of the hidden monument of Delhi near Siri Fort Auditorium. Though small in size it is believed to be a mosque during the Sultanate times. Not well maintained that much.
This mosque is surrounded by greenish Gulmohar park. Beautiful place for walking. It has exercise area, beaifully maintained lawn, walking and winding pathway...hmm... it is around 750 meters in length and plenty of canines with leash. Walk way is totally under tree shades and you feel you are walking in a jungle. Unbelievably calm place amidst gulmohar enclave, green park and Hauz khas. Darwesh Sha mosque ruins are located in the front and it can be accessed from Balbir Singh road and Hauz Khas road. Occasionally kids threaten your knees by whizzing past in their bicycles. Another side young men play cricket flouting the park rules that prohibit cricket and cycling. Otherwise it's a nice place and inviting.
Medieval monument protected by Department of Archaeology, Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
Old tomb ,lovely place , view luv, good condition
Parking is a slight issue here... But the park is well managed and clean.. The mosque is closed for public but the structure from outside is well preserved and talks a lot about the architecture from that era..

Another unexplored part of the Sanjay van Forest. Can get v nice views from here, especially at dawn during sunrise. Sunset would be good too, but after that it gets really dark and would not be safe finding one's way back out of the park.
One of the historical monuments of Mughal Era situated inside Sundar nursery. The nursery is open till 10 PM every day and the ticket is Rs50 per person. I would recommend going afternoon as the weather and the views are very pleasing and appealing.
