Markandeya Hills - Hindu temple in Kolar - Kolar, India

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. It is around 60 kms from Bangalore and the roads for the most part are very decent. It's a scenic drive. The temple is situated on a small hilltop and offers great view of the entire surrounding. Even on weekend there are few people who visit so it's not crowded at all. The last 1 km is uphill drive with sharp back to back turns so be a little careful if you're new to driving, though it is very much doable. There is also parking space available at the top outside the temple. Overall I would recommend this place if you're looking for half day trip in Bangalore outskirts.

This temple is situated on Markandeya Hills is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year, especially during festivals and auspicious occasions. The temple complex features intricate architectural designs and is surrounded by natural beauty. The serene atmosphere of the hills adds to the spiritual experience for us. However, I advise to plan accordingly as there are no availability of basic facilities such as drinking water, washrooms, and shops. Recommended to carry their own water and bring any essential items they may need during their visit.

Must visit place. It is not that far from BLR and can be easily covered in a half day ride. The last stretch to the hills have multiple hair pin turns so ride or drive carefully. The view from the top is beautiful. The temple was closed when we visited.

What a beautiful temple on the hills! Very calm and soothing as I visited during week days. Vehicle can be parked at the base if you wish to take steps or you can drive till temple. 360 view from the top is awesome.

From the top of the hill, the view is breathtaking. You can see for miles in every direction. The rolling landscape is painted in shades of green, with fields and forests stretching out as far as the eye can see. With beautiful temple.In the distance, there's a serene river winding its way through the valley. The sky is a brilliant blue, with fluffy white clouds scattered across it. As you take in the panorama, you feel a sense of peace and awe at the beauty of the natural world.

Ohh my! Heaven on Earth probably . Such a wonderful place and peaceful to the eyes. Just what your heart and soul longs for everyday in your life . Started to this place at 4:45am from Bellandur and reached around 6:20. The route was amazing and not surprised that Bangalore roads had traffic even at this time The road that goes inside from Highway wasn't that good initially, but, as you near the place, you could sense that you're going to one of the best places in your life. You could see the mountains covered with mist from a distance and that gives you Goosebumps... Oh, yaaa there were many speed bumps here and there coz it's a village road. Not many shops you would see near the place. And few sharp curves that were steep in the hills, so I recommend new bikers to go carefully and in low gear. Just when you complete all the curves and reach the top, your jaws would drop seeing the place. Covered with mist, actually you'll be inside them. The fact is that, the temple entrance door, faces the direction of sunrise The sun playing hide and seek with the help of those clouds was such a beautiful sight. And yeah, there were few monkeys, which didn't harm anyone , but, just be cautious. Take your own food or snack, as you won't find anything there. There were few steps going down the temple, I missed going there, but, it's a good place for clicking photos down there the steps. It would be nice if you reach early morning and wait till the temple opens and have a good Darshan, hear the history of place to add on top of your spine chilling moments in the hills. Have a safe ride!

Love the place. You can go by car and bike. Ample parking, no rush whatsoever! The temple is amazing. No shops around so carry your own water and snacks or Pooja items. No entry fee!

Worth one visit but nothing beyond. Temple opens at 10 am but place can get warm in summers by 8.30 am itself. So if you want just a drive, go early. Concrete oads are nicely laid from bottom to temple top. 25 cars can be parked near the temple and there is a restroom too (but not properly maintained). Roads near the temple are scenic. Steps are there to walk, for about a kilometer. Carry water and snacks if needed since there is no nearby shop for quite a distance.
