I had to come back after seeing the Marble Palace from outside. A place to spend time with family or friends and requires government permission to enter. Green, calm and pleasant environment next to the hustle and bustle of the city. But its museum is now closed. The doorman said the interior is being worked on, unlikely to open before 2024.
Outside of the palace tells itself the magnificence of this place.. extremely beautiful palace of a wealthy merchant..nearest metro station for reaching here is MG metro station. Though it has been closed for 3 years due to COVID . Those who will visit here must visit the most beautiful Lord Ganeshaji temple beside this palace.
There is no entry fee..You can visit it any time. One of the Best old Calcutta heritage. There is zoo where different animals and birds of different regions are there. Marble Palace is a palatial nineteenth-century mansion in North Kolkata. It is located at 46, Muktaram Babu Street, Kolkata 700007. It is one of the best-preserved and most elegant houses of nineteenth-century Calcutta. The mansion is famous for its marble walls, floors, and sculptures, from which it derives its name. The house was built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick, a wealthy Bengali merchant with a passion for collecting works of art. The house continues to be a residence for his descendants, and the current occupants are the family of Raja Rajendra Mullick Bahadur. Raja Rajendra Mullick was the adopted son of Nilmoni Mullick, who built a Jagannath temple which predates Marble Palace, and still stands within the premises, but is only accessible to members of the family.
A must see for every tourist who visits Kolkata. Get to see the opulence in the lifestyle of the rich zamindars (land owners) of medieval Bengal. The Palace houses exquisite paintings, artefacts, furnishings, chandeliers, etc. Wonderful architecture. There is a well kept garden where there are swans, and many other species of birds. Race horses are bred. The owners, the Mullick family still live in the building. The Palace is open to visitors. Open on all days except Mondays, free, one piece of advice - stay away from touts or guides.
This mansion was built by Raja Rajendra Mullick in the year 1835. This mansion is famous for its marble floors , sculptures and walls . Located at a very good place.....10 - 15 minutes walking distance from Jorasanko Thakur Bari. The nearest metro station is Mahatma Gandhi metro station . From this metro station , the Marble Palace is about 290 metres. Though it is temporarily closed due to some maintenance going on inside , it looks very beautiful from outside. Here also , photography is strictly prohibited. Don't know about the entry fees. It is also one of the tourist spots in Kolkata . Liked it !!
Can anyone enlighten if the Marble Palace in Muktaram Babu Street is open or accessible to public? It seems the guards at gate there don't allow inside saying it's closed since covid ... it houses one of the best private museum collection in kolkata apart from the architectural marvel of the beautiful palace ..
This place was built in the late 1835 , by a gold businessman for displaying his personal collections of marble sculptures , bronze sculptures and marvellous paintings. This is a wonderful place to visit if art inspires you. Very underrated place yet very beautiful. Entry to this place is quite tricky and also a guide is needed to understand the interiors of the palace.
This place is a private property. Visitors are not allowed. Google and Google Maps has wrong information.
