Malse Lake - Swimming lake in Shillong - East Khasi Hills, India

Our office picnic held this place. This place very beautiful & clean.Program for whole day is the best. Distance - 2 ours cab journey from police bazar.

It is beautiful man made lake and must visit if one gets a chance because ntry is restricted due to security. Lake is named after Air Force Veteran Air Marshal Y V Malse who conceptualized the idea of a water reservoir to fulfill the water requirement of Air Force HQ. Boating is also available here. It gets very cold in the absence of sun.

It's fantastic place, lake side view is awesome.

1. The lake is name after Eastern air force commander Air marshal Y V Malse 2. He conceptualized the idea of a water reservoir which got made up into a lake and a dam gate with approx height of 75-100mtr deep 3. The area is restricted for defence people only 4. It has got beautiful cottages known as Malse and Diwan Cottage 5. Boating is also available here 6. Must visit to this hidden undisturbed and lifeline of air force at upper Shillong 7. Do wear adequate clothing as it gets cold if sun is not there And do not spoil the place with unwanted wrappers

Malse lake is a huge water body created inside government establishment to collect and store water from the nearby catchment area. Number of streams around the lake feeds this lake with huge amount of water during rains. Water level during rains raises up substantially during monsoon period. The lake is spread into oval shape and is encircled by a road and lined up with large number of trees. The periphery of 1.5 km + long is so rich in greens and walk on this peripheral road in the morning is so refreshing and rejuvenating. The birds chirping makes such a natural music which is pleasent to the ears. A dam ( about 50 mtr high) has been built to preserve the water and level is being maintained through sluice gates. The outflow of water from dam looks like a water fall and whole lake is visible from top if dam. A very pleasant experience to be with body of water.

Beautiful and serene. But inside protected area unavailable to civilians. It is an artificial lake created due a dam. Boating is permitted for elligible personnel.

A fresh water lake in upper shillong. Maintainted beautifully and gracefully by the protector of Indian skies, thats the Indian Air Force under its Eastern Command. Its a restricted area since its in defence land. Boating facilities are available but temporarily discontinued due to low water level and the same is used for household needs.
