Malay Dam or Satbarwa Dam is a famous tourist destination in Palamu district and located in Satbarwa Block at a distance of 32 km South East of Medininagar town. It was built in 1980 for the irrigation purpose and comes under the Water resource department, Govt of Jharkhand. It stores Monsoonal rain water drained through surrounding hills and it is the origin point of Maila river, a small tributary of Amanat river which itself a tributary of North Koel river. It is 94.5 feet high dam and provided water to villagers for irrigation purpose through canal system.
The Fisherman cooperative societies engaged in cage culture fishing and through net system. They also operate boat for tourist on payment basis. There is also Distrist Tourism Centre for facilitating tourists.
The best time to visit this site during rainy and after monsoon. I recently visited this place and found sunrise here one of the most attractive things to happen here. athe nearby coal and graphite mines, if not supervised carefully could lead damage to this dam. I would urge people visiting this place to not through plastic and garbages here and there and also not indulge in careless water activities which could lead to drowning.
Awesome place in this location. Best for picnic and boating. Both types of boat are there- pedal boat, which you can ride by your foot which cost around 50 rupees per head and motor boat which is good which cost around 100 rupees per head. I will prefer to take ride with motor boat because Pedal boat will make you tired.
This is a great place to visit during monsoon time. It is 35 km from Daltonganj. There are two small islands in the middle of the dam. It looks really amazing. Pedal boat service is also available.
Nice view of the Reservoir and surrounding landscape. Still need to be developed as tourist spot, serious lack of Shades and refreshment point.
Dam is so beautiful & scenic. This could add to Jharkhand Tourism if paid well attention. I was astonished to find such thing in our locality.
It's a very good place for enjoy with family and friends also. Must visit here.
Beautiful place but the approach road from the highway is single lane and in extremely bad condition. Apart from the boating, there is no other facility for tourists.
Malay Dam is located in the western part of Jharkhand. It is
situated in the Block Satbarwa of District Palamu. You can here and 2njoy with your family and friends. Cook food, play games, take a dip in the water but we need to ensure that we do not pollute the environment by throwing garbage etc. The water is a bit dirty but you can take bath and catch fish as well.
