Very famous temple located at sambalpur. A good family destination. Located near the bank of The Mahanadi River. The Goddess is very famous. The temple administration provides lodging ,which is a very nice decision. I love the place

The transformation of the temple was in progress during my visit. The progress was very good. A very good initiative by the government of Odisha to develop the infrastructure of a very important temple of western odisha as well as the entire Odisha. The darshan of goddess Samaleswari was also in a very disciplined way. The campus was very neat and clean.

There is no rude behaviour by priest for money like other temples, which I mostly like. But the surrounding of the temple was not enough, how I expected. But, don't worry , renovation taking place by govt. , It will seems like other sakti pitha within some year

The temple is so beautiful. Currently the area is under huge renovation as sanctioned by the Odisha Government for better tourism.

Maa samalei" is the eastadevi of western odisha and " presiding deity" of sambalpur. The temple is on the bank of river mahanadi, SAMBALPUR. Acc. to historical evidence ,king Balaram dev of chauhan dinesty built goddesses samaleswari temple in 16th century. It is a very famous shakti pitha in odisha. Goddess samaleswari lives in the heart of people of not only western odisha but also in many parts of chattisgarh who believe in the existence of goddesses samaleswari and the blessings that she has on her children. At the "nuakhai " festival,new crops are cut and offered to the goddesses samaleswari

As of the last week, the construction work is going on for the temple premises... the temple surroundings are being renovated. There is not much crowd or gathering when i visited the temple at the evening time... had a very pleasent darshan of maa samaleswari. Once the surroundings are renovated the temple will attract more and more public. A must place to visit if u visit sambalpur, if u r not an aethist..

Samaleswari Temple is a Hindu temple in Sambalpur, Odisha, India, dedicated to the goddess known as 'Samaleswari', also known among the natives as samalei maa, meaning Mother Samaleswari. Shree Shree Samaleswari, the presiding deity of Sambalpur, is a strong religious force in western part of Odisha and Chhattisgarh state of India. On the bank of the river Mahanadi, the mother goddess Samaleswari is worshipped from ancient times as Jagatjanani, Adishakti, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati, and is the mother of the universe. After Lord Jagannath, she is the only Goddess in Odisha who is the presiding deity of such a large region including the complete Western Odisha, parts of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The region in which the temple is situated has a rich cultural heritage. Sambalpur region is popularly known as Hirakhanda from ancient times. Ptolemy has described the place as Sambalaka, according to Tavernir, the French explorer, and Edward Gibbon, the English historian, diamonds were exported to Rome from Sambalpur.
