Lauriya Areraj Ashoka Pillar - East Champaran District, Bihar, India - Tourist attraction in Lauriya - Purbi Champaran, India

Located just 5-6 kilometres from Areraj, i was fortunate enough to be able to visit another Ashokan pillar located at Lauriya. This pillar is different in the sense that there is no lion(s) at the top of the pillar. Inscribed on the pillar is Pali language, this pillar is located on the highway, but still feels isolated and ignored. Though a protected monument, I felt it didn't have near the footfall it has the potential of having. When I visited, there was nobody except for a guard only. I always feel fascinated by the carvings of those times and the quality of work that has preserved through 1000s of years. It's also called Lauriya pillar by the locals. It's located in a big area close to a huge Banyan tree . Enjoyed viewing it but also had mixed feelings due to the isolation and no people around. Entrance fee - NIL

Ashok stambh ...3.5 km from areraj someshwar nath...in the stambh somthing written in Pali lipi at the time of Samrat Ashok... And intresting thing is that it made by one stone ..well polished and shining it look like a iron with shining polished and all over the India only 6 stambh...and this is one of them

The place is good, but there is no protection to monument. When I visited there was no guard or authority there, so I felt as anyone one could damage this pillar. There was some engravings on pillar. The whole place was a mess as there was all over grasses. But i recommend you to visit once.

A palace of great past and heritage of India. But poorly developed like no development even after situating at key locations.Because Bihar government CM is busy Only his home districts like Nawada&Nalanda and only southern part of bihar

Symbol of great Indian history. protection and maintenance of the place is needed. The present condition of the place us very bad. It is clearly seen the ignorance of the government and archeological department. Please respect the value of the place.

Area is fresh and beautiful but need to be developed more

Only cemented pillar is available instead of Ashok Stambh, it's poor part of Bihar Government.

Rate based on Its maintenance. One staff was there who was sitting on chair and talking somewhere on call. Gate Lock was broken. This place will convert into forest soon if no special guest will visit.
