After my first visit, I realised that it was definitely a 5 star deserving eatery in Leh main market. I had chicken thukpa and chicken chutagi that day. After tasting the thukpa, which is one of the best I ever had, I decided to visit again during my stay. I had to taste the momo And I did. On my second visit I had an entire bowl of paneer thukpa and veg momos. Loved both of them. Everything was so tasty and so fresh. I wanted to try a few more dishes but i was full!
Definitely visiting again if I ever come back to Leh.
It's easy to miss the Ladakh Himalayan Kitchen. The shop sign is unobtrusive, the shop facade nondescript. The only thing to tempt you inside is the cake counter visible prominently to passers-by. Inside, it's a surprisingly spacious eatery with pleasant lighting, simple interiors, wooden floors, tables and chairs, that can seat 28 when it's house-full. The menu is a bit puzzling, it has local Ladakhi cuisine, but also biryanis, pastas and Indian-Chinese dishes like chicken chilli and chicken manchurian. I ordered a masala chai and since it was lunchtime, decided to try the vegetable chutagi, a very Ladakhi dish. The masala chai was nice, but could've been a bit hotter. The vegetable chutagi took a long time coming, but when it did it was an absolute delight. The serving was large, the soup was hot and tasty, with diced carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, chopped spinach and tiny dumplings. Every spoonful was a delight, and I'd it slowly, relishing every drop of my first ever chutagi. After lunch, I skipped the apple crumble, my first choice, and ordered a mixed fruit crumble. It was a mistake. The crumble lacked a distinct taste and flavour, came unattractively broken in two pieces, and I couldn't identify any fruit other than some apple slices. The pie must've rested in the glass counter for some days, because it had a bit of a tired, slightly stale taste. However, I would be returning to the Ladakhi Himalayan Kitchen to try their other Ladakhi dishes - the skyu, thenthuks and thukpas. And maybe avoid their bakery counter.
On another occasion I tried the chicken biryani, which I was told was like Hyderabadi biryani. Sadly, it was just coloured and spiced-up rice with a single small piece of unappetizing, unmarinated chicken!!
Food is wonderful.
Best food tasted in Leh.
We had the mixed chicken thukpa, chicken chutagi, and last but not the least apricot cheese cake. It was yummy.
Absolutely delicious food!
Tried out vegetarian options like thukpa, momos (chilli pan fried and steamed both were amazing) and skyu (which was a hidden gem)
The owner is super sweet and the service is fast too.
The soup momos here are my favourite and do check out the apricot crumble and apricot tart. I went back here twice when I was in Leh!
We tried local ladhaki cuisine here. The Skyu was amazing! The thukpa was good too. The soups are really comforting.
We ordered rice and noodles apart from this which were passable.
We shall find all local cuisine. Visited almost every day when I stayed in Leh
Amazing chicken mokthuk and mutton thukpa. Warm and freshly prepared soup with crunchy veggies. Good first day eat at Leh
