If you can trek and having a mind to click birds pictures with a pro camera or love a walk through forest. This is the place for you. Well maintanied property.
But entry fee is 100/ person excluding parking fee. Which is pretty high.
The place is actually good for walking, lake side view, and for some sort of adventure. Only thing that you can't see is birds. If you are lucky you can see some monitor lizards and turtle.
The entry fee per person is 100 and 25 for car parking.
Boat ride is available there.
Kumarakom has very few places for site seeing, the bird sanctuary being one of them. The hotel staff suggested we go at around 7 am if we want to catch bird sitings. The sanctuary is approximately a 4 km walk to and from each. The walkway passes through the dense sanctuary and is a pleasant hike. Some of us made the mistake of not wearing full clothes and/or rain shoes. There are plenty of mosquitoes and if you plan on doing photography along the way, they are sure to come bite while you take your time to set the frames and click.
Unfortunately we couldn't site any birds, only heard their voices. The last lag of the hike is a slightly difficult one. Till the last lag you will find a pathway of stepping stones and bridges where you may walk upon. In the last leg, however, there is none. You will be walking through swamps, mud and slippy roots. The last lag is also only for those who wish to go to the watch tower and finally see the birds from an aerial view. Thankfully we saw lots of birds on tree tops from the watch tower.
Go there during the season to spot the migratory birds. Currently watch towers are closed. Entry is free if you stay at Waterscapes resort. One will have to walk 4 kilometres through the sanctuary. It's a nice walk through the forest with a walkway and narrow bridges. This is a hidden gem. It's a great walk that leads to a nice viewpoint. A lot of bird sounds as you walk. If you expect to see birds, make sure you have a lot of patience as the birds are within the foliage. Good way to spend some time in nature. A nice, peaceful, enjoyable walk with a lot of bird sounds all around you. Highly recommended. if you do not spot any birds, it's a nice experience
If you live nature, this place gives the calm and serene atmosphere. While entering the sanctuary, counter staff told us that no birds in this time. November 17. However since we love the greenery and calmness ,we have started our walk to the sanctuary. Even though no birds , the music of nature was worth feeling. A walk through this sanctuary will refresh your mind and body. Although it was a 2.5 km walk, we walked only 1 km and came back. Still our experience was great
Nice ad easy spot to cool Ur self.
2.5 km one side walking area for bird sanctuary.Cant find much birds during off session, still a good place for refreshment.
KTDC boat service is available inside sanctuary which is cheap compared to private boat services
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary in Alappuzha offers a serene and natural escape for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. The entrance fee of 100 per head is quite reasonable for the experience it offers. The presence of a parking fee suggests that the facility is well-maintained and organized.
The sanctuary is expansive, providing ample space for visitors to explore. The sounds of birds chirping add to the ambiance, although the actual bird sightings can vary. It's not uncommon to see a limited number of bird species on certain visits, as bird activity can depend on the time of day and season
One highlight of the sanctuary is the presence of various small animals, which can make the visit even more exciting. The atmosphere, especially during hot weather, offers a refreshing and cool escape due to the lush greenery and water bodies.
It's worth noting that the ban on plastics is a positive step for preserving the environment.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary also offers birdwatching towers, enhancing the experience for enthusiasts. The walking paths and trails allow visitors to immerse themselves in nature, making it a must-visit destination for those who enjoy outdoor activities and appreciate the beauty of Kerala's wildlife and natural surroundings.
Beautiful sanctuary to spend an early morning time. Must visit with patience to spot the birds. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful place to walk around in the early mornings or in the evenings around 4/5 pm.
We absolutely loved our experience.
We booked a 1 bedroom houseboat with A/C in the bedrooms. It was spacious and clean and the bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with an English toilet (no toilet paper only a water jet so take that if you need it!).
We booked olala house boat with the help of Mrs. Jessitha, thanks for booking it with shorter notice. The experience was really good. The owner Mr. Shreejit and the crew members hospitality was awesome.
Our stay at Gokulam Grand Resort & Spa in Kumarakom was simply exceptional. The combination of delightful accommodation and delectable food made our visit truly memorable. The property's waterfront is the best in class, and the immaculate pool is a t
We had this mid-sized boat to ourselves (a group of 4). It was nice mostly sunny day so we enjoyed the view from top. The crew were very friendly and navigated the boat at a nice leisurely pace. My wife even took a short nap in one of the bedrooms.
