Konni - Ecotourism. Konni is a major town in Pattanamthitta district, Kerala. It is famous for its scenic beauty with its green lands and is merging to the thick forest with wild animals. An elephant training centre makes the place an important tourist attraction of this locality. I have made a visit to this centre in March 2016. The huge elephant cages are built with strong woods. The cages are locally known as "aanakoodu". The trainers are giving training to the young and baby elephants. Visitors can make a close watch to these elephants and their behavior. It is very interesting to watch the movements and feeding of the baby elephants. One elephant - named "Soman" is very naughty, and is restless all the time. There is chance for elephant ride those who wish to. There is an additional payment for that. Children's play area is also there. But, I am not advising to use that, because most of the devises are in a rusting stage. Monday Konni elephant cage is closed. The Adavi Eco tourism project is part of the third phase of Konni Eco tourism project; it is about 10 km from Konni town. The kotta vanchi ride (bowl boat / coracle boat) is arranged in Kallaar River at adavi and the main attraction is the lush green forest in the banks.

If you are in Pathanamthitta you can visit this place hassle free with your kids. For adults who don't have any expectations on this place, then you won't be disappointed. There is an entry fee for adults of 40 Rsand kids 5-10years 15Rs, also if you carry a camera they add an additional fee . All together there are only 5 elephants currently including one baby elephant to see. Before there was elephant safari and we can touch elephants now they revoked the opportunity to feed them or touch them or for elephant safari. You can watch them chained in their shelter from a distance. There is a museum which displays weapons used in ancient times to catch wild elephants and the fossils in the exhibition hall are quite interesting to see, but feels like missing more information and all together in a tiny room. There is a store in the site where you can buy some handmade artcrafts, native medicines, wild honey etc. Also, there is a coffee shop inside. Another attraction in the property is a small area of children's park but most of them are not maintained on time and broken iron rods, for kids they're taking money from the visitors but not maintained anything at the premises well. At least do maintenance on time for the kids who visit this park

Learn about the elephant culture with years of historical background. A very eco friendly atmosphere with a museum, kids play area and we can watch the life of live elephants.. and can experience the elephant capturing, training and maintaining schemes as well.
